Re: Building advice sought

"people warn me that it is a dangerous aircraft to fly" Gary, I think you may have been talking to the wrong people...! The Taylor Mono is a grand little aircraft and no more or less "dangerous" than any other aircraft. Ours was 1600 VW powered and had very pleasant handling. It was also good in a c...

Re: ID of old engine?

Rob
It's a McCulloch 2-stroke.
Used on target drones, so were designed for a short but merry life.
I have a friend who had one on his autogyro. Plenty of power but noisy.

The arm that follows the camshaft is spring loaded so the pump will only deliver as required to maintain a full float chamber....

How fast ??

Rob I once managed 26 kt backwards in a Jodel. I had 50 kt indicated airspeed at about 2500 ft. There must have been some strong wave about in the lee of the Pennines. Sometimes the very strong winds associated with wave come down to quite low levels. Funny thing was, on the ground it wasn't unusual...

Tearing off a strip...

Jeremy I can see both sides of the strip scenario. With respect a factory 117 will outperform good ol 'PR which was a homebuilt and somewhat heavier (empty) than a factory built 117. I flew PR when it lived at Crosland Moor. I share Alan's enthusiasm for the 117. My own example would go in and out o...

Short stripper

Jodel D117 or D120 will tackle 300 metres. With 25 gallons fuel capacity you can certainly go a long way, although operating with full tanks will take the sparkle out of takeoff performance. 4.5 gph is about average cruise consumption for a C90 powered Jodel. 120's tend to have fatter tyres than 117...

Dave One basic difference between Perspex and Lexan not so far mentioned. You can take hammer (or your fist ) to Lexan and it won't shatter whereas Perspex will. I have a friend who had to extricate himself from his Jodel when it was in an "unusual attitude", if the side screens hadn't been Perspex ...
