Doing the sums effective prop diam 66*3.14*.75 / 12 = 13ft effective speed = 13 * 2100 / ( 3*1760) = 309 mph tan of 17 degs = 0.324 * 309 = 100.4 mph so given the horrid inefficiency of having 2 cricket bats swinging around out front, a warp drive of that size set at 17 degrees should give a tad les...

well yes, in fact if you extrapolate from the car driving statistics, us folks with controlled ailments probably have less accidents per capita than our younger fitter brethren, less testosterone and all that

Mike, ref your post showing the text and the HTML. I make the assumption that the fella at NATS does not enter all this stuff by hand every day - he presumably has some little bit of code that takes the data from source, and wraps it in HTML. If that is the case, then it's a straight forward task to...

It strikes me that you guys may be talking to the wrong folks. NATS are a commercial supplier of services - a monopoly supplier. They presumably have some form of contract with the CAA. The CAA have a big issue with folks busting airspace, we therefore have to get the CAA to pressure NATS to make da...

Mike, the intention of the amendment is pretty obvious, however the brevity of the doc is such that it leaves folks in a position to interpret the doc - that is regardless of what you believe to be the legal position, if it ain't written down, it ain't law. Risking being grounded in L2K by a French ...

The announcement - even though it comes from the same person, is not the same as the ANO amendment. It makes no distinction regarding the flight context ie local or international. it says that the pilot may fly certain types of aircraft ie micro, SLPG, SEA.

PPL Medical- unexpected gift

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/ORS4_689.pdf I found the above from an article on Flyer Does this mean I may exersize all the privs of my PPL? the document makes no references to limitations. Of interest to me, it would seem to mean that I can legally fly a UK reg aircraft into Europe on the exactly t...

Steve N, that's exactly what I am getting at. My guess is that most LAA members have drifted into membership, rather being recruited, it's largely passive recruitment. I applaud the young aviators initiatives etc, I expect that we gain a few members from this work ( dads etc ). I see pilot training ...

you don't actually need anything very sophiiisticated to test a blind atimeter encoder. all you need is a 10 quid B&Q multimeter. Download and print out the following web page http://www.airsport-corp.com/modecascii.txt Grab your encoder handbook, which hopefully has a pin-out diagram switch on your...

You cannot get into the picture site cos it's completely broken. The LAA web site should be a key instrument in attracting new members. It needs a professional makeover It's too important to be left in the hands of well meaning amateurs. If you think that is will be too expensive, go figure how many...

Mike, the main thrust of my argument is that NATS ICAO Eurocontrol are taking far too long to get xnotam in place. The x for xtensible in the title is the clue, they could actually promolgate an xml schema today. - take the basics We have airfield, so we know there will be a airfield tag and airfiel...

Rod,

Nobody says that's not the best group, but it's not the only group, there are at best only a few thousand of those folks.

How many folks will go to the Red Bull races? how many non-pilots were at Farnborough ?

Every person who turns to watch as a 152 flies overhead is a potential member

How do we encourage more new pilots

Well actually we don't, and it is time the LAA re-focused on getting more folks flying. I just spent the weekend at the Le Mans Classic weekend, this is a celebration of the golden years of the Le Mans 24 hour race. There were something like 70000 people there, probably 60% were 30-60 year old brits...

when looking to replace my prop, I looked at comp props. I spoke to a manufacturer in USA - I cannot remember which - it was the ones with an ally hub and carbon ground adj blades, he adviced me that they are unhappy to supply props for VWs. The crank is not strong enough, so I guess it does not mat...
