Re: Approved aircraft list?

My recollection is that it was sent to me by the PFA when I joined. I just tried digging through my attic to see whether I still had my old copy, but I failed to find it. :(

Re: web site!!!!

Have to agree with josher w.r.t. lack of a search facility. Surely it isn't difficult to host a search textbox that forwards the search string to Google with " site:lightaircraftassociation.co.uk" appended to it - a bit clunky but would satisfy the requirement for minimal effort.

Approved aircraft list?

I was going to ask what happened to the approved aircraft types list. This has existed since I joined the PFA decades ago, but I'll confess that these days I can't find it on the website. That could be just me failing to find stuff. Of course the complete absence of a search facility (that I can fin...

Re: Why do so many VP-1's fall into disuse?

Thank you to all of you for your words of encouragement re my old project - very much appreciated. Rest assured I am not in any hurry to abandon it, especially after dragging it with me for three decades. I've been spending a fair bit of time lately mentally picturing the instrument layout...

Re: Why do so many VP-1's fall into disuse?

I fully agree re G-BAPP - I spotted it when up for sale a few years ago and thought if only... The SuperVeep is I believe G-BVAM - the Jabiru powered one that the the Breighton VP-1 group now own in addition to G-BAAD. Since acquiring G-BVAM I understand that they have taken G-BAAD out of service fo...

Re: Why do so many VP-1's fall into disuse?

Alan & Chris, thanks for your replies. I already have all the metal (although having been wrapped away in plastic for 30 years I won't know what state it's in until I unwrap it all again) bar the undercarriage (so that tip re the ready-formed one is very much appreciated) - it was the business of cu...

Why do so many VP-1's fall into disuse?

I started building a VP-1 in my twenties but eventually found that the temptations of life, friends, etc. were too great and shelved the project. I decided it would make a fun retirement project. Fast forward over thirty years and I'm making plans for how to escape the shackles of the day job within...

Re: Open cockpit flying during winter

During my last motorcycling phase (2009 - 2016 with a Royal Enfield Bullet 500) I invested in one of those electrically heated jackets, and I have been pondering its suitability for use in an open cockpit aircraft (providing it has sufficient electrical capacity) because when I finally retire I inte...

What's it like having the sky to yourself today?

Anyone out there able to go flying on a Friday? Must be awesome having pretty much the entire sky to yourself with glorious weather (at least that's what I'm looking at here in County Down) and no CAT. Are ATC even bothering to worry where anyone goes today? Hope you enjoy it whoever gets airborne. :D

Life assurance for PPLs?

Anyone know any life assurance companies who don't apply heavy loadings for PPLs? I was in the process of taking out a policy with Co-operative Insurance Services but they came back with a loading of 80% for a few hours per year of private flying for a policy lasting 12 years. I'd naturally prefer a...
