Re: Travel to airfield for self maintenance. Acceptable or not?
Well, how strange is that? The CAA have just published more guidance re GA Aircraft Maintenance and specifically mention test flights etc. Given this, it appears that one can do essential maintenance and conduct a test flight if required. All we need the is the key to the hangar door!

Re: Travel to airfield for self maintenance. Acceptable or not?
In my view, this would not be classed as “essential” travel or “work” as it is, after all, a discretionary journey made in the interest of a sport, a leisure activity or a pastime in much the same vein as travelling for a quick round of golf! The acid test would be the result of getting caught and, ...

Re: Covid-19 Lockdown
My reasoning for mentioning this potential “overlooking” of the lockdown rules is by no means to hold a kangaroo court or to name and shame but to enable the defence of a claim that significant numbers or most GA pilots and owners have honoured the trust placed in us by the DfT. If numbers of transg...

Re: Covid-19 Lockdown
A quick peep on Ginfo tells us who the registered owner is.... Perhaps the LAA would like to collect and collate reports like this?

Covid-19 Lockdown
Hi, We are all in “lockdown” at the moment and most,if not all,our flying clubs have closed their gates. Yesterday around midday, a Cessna 172 or similar flew over my house in North Cornwall at low level (hiding under radar) heading a North. I would guess that it was travelling from the vicinity of ...

Re: Aircraft Noise Certificate
It’s true. General Exemption E 4930 gives an exemption to microlight aircraft!

Aircraft Noise Certificate
I seem to recall a report that the requirement for a noise cert for microlight registered aircraft had been recently removed. It is not that I don’t have one but the aircraft that I have a share in has recently had a new prop that has a slightly different profile to the old version of the same type....

Kitfox - Gap seal
Hi, I fly a Kitfox Mk2 as well as a glider. In gliders, the use of Mylar gap seal for the control surfaces is well understood and is used to reduce form drag and improve the effectiveness of the controls at low airspeed. I have read that using this gap seal on the Kitfox Mk2 aircraft helps to improv...

Many thanks - why the CAA website does not make this clear I cannot guess!

CAA Medical Self Declaration
Hi, over the last year I have gained my NPPL and did so on with the support of my LAPL Medical cert which I have for my gliding activities (LAPL(S)). This expires soon and, as I am thinking of giving up gliding in favour of flying microlight aircraft, I set forth to self declare on the CAA website. ...
