Re: Loads through wing struts
It may not be relevant, but as I see it, the wing spars and struts of any light aircraft see far more stress excursions (in some instances) on the ground than in the air. Quite often you will see an aircraft taxi on rough ground and the wings tips will violently snatch up and down as it runs over ru...

Re: Composite panel 'flat-pack' construction
"Klegecell" is another core material - used, I think, in the wing construction of the "Cri-Cri" and the "Luciole". I received a few samples of the stuff years ago and it's as tough as nails and very light.

There was a three piece wing Colibri MB2 featured in an old PFA mag - so it can be done.

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?
Rather than buy a pre-drilled kit, it would be nice if we could purchase stick on paper tamplates for each component. It could be rolled off a printing press for very little cost. Then we could buy material as we progress.

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?
For me, the item at the top of the list would be wing fold - as the major outlay in ownership today is hangarage. In addition, the ability to do maintanance with ease at home is very attractive. I used to rule out the "Onex" as fugly, but the wing fold system and tri-gear outfit is nice. I do like s...

Re: Canopy Moulding
There was a cracking article in an old PFA magazine, written by a chap who made a blown canopy for a Corby Starlet. I recall that it had several pictures of the set-up, including information on how he achieved the correct temperature for deformation of material.

Put a nut on the bolt first in order to get the hole central and in the right place. Drill a pilot hole to make life easier.

If you take a look on "youtube" under "super cub airplane recover" you will see what is in front of you, job wise. There is a whole host of information on covering, rib stitching, doping etc under different titles. Giz it when you've finished !!

Don't tell them about UAV ENGINES LTD then - it's a pity they don't supply GA though.

Re: Microlight or Class A ?
If the type (as a microlight) already has a noise certificate for the established engine / propellor combinations there is no need to get another. If I was building though, without the slightest doubt, I'd stick with the LAA for ongoing annual permit renewal etc rather than the other body.

The aerial shot shows that it has shrunk a lot since I took my PPL there in '76.
