Re: Nose wheel re chroming

Try a company in your area that does refurbishment of hydraulic rams. Ask an agricultural machinery agent where you can find one.

Re: Jodel 1050

When bleeding brakes, you are trying to force air “downhill” - I use a piece of clear poly tubing on the end of one of those trigger operated oil cans (with only brake fluid in it), pump the oil can until only brake fluid issues at the end, connect it to the bleed nipple, open it and pump fluid in, ...

Re: After the Rally

Believe you me, for us it was and always will be a great adventure getting to the rally. No complications of crowded skies and complicated airspace in the far north. An early start at 07.30 out of Wick, routing via Dundee and Fishburn we were well prepared for arrival at Sywell at 17.06 but about tw...

Re: After the Rally

If there was a lot of shouting, best grin and bear it, otherwise if we complaineth too much they may withdraw the volunteering which would scupper the rally.

Re: Clutton FRED running costs?

I can guarantee that you won’t see a better “Fred” than G-ORAS. Alistair flew his all the way from north of Inverness to Sywell, in his kilt ! He won best plans build home built trophy with it - thoroughly deserved.

Re: Letov Sluka.

I have the sleeve machined (by the Queen’s men) all ready to fit - it’s just a nuisance taking the engine mountings and other fittings away. I will get round to it ! Basically, I would like to make an attempt at making a near copy of the whole microlight. I have enough aircraft quality tubing (round...

Letov Sluka.

My Sluka (now in the SSDR category, was under the LAA ) employs a 90mm thin walled boom tube as the fuselage, at the front of which sits a Rotax 447. Many Sulks are now defunct due to radial cracking emanating from a forward attachment hole for the wing. I dye penetrant tested mine every year for an...

Re: wooden propeller tracking

If I might add - it it absolutely essential to get your torque wrench calibrated before use. Even a new one can be “out” by more than 10%. In addition, if you use lubricant on the hub bolt threads, this can lead to over-torquing, especially on fine threads.

Re: Converting plans/templates into AutoCAD files

I have reams of paper plans, some full size, for the Chasle Tourbillon - a single seat plywood covered aircraft. Too late in life now to build (it used to be on the PFA approved designs listing) but was advised not to take dimensions from them due to paper shrinkage etc. One of these was in build in...

Re: Wing Strut Bolts - Washers?

I would put the washers under the bolt heads in order to spread the load in the area, act as a bearing surface- if the hex heads “dig in” without them, they can tear the undersurface.

Re: Main Wheels

You haven’t mentioned wheel size, but, google “Trolley wheels”. There are many to choose from (with split rims) for ease of tyre changes. There was a French website - something like “ URL technologie” with everything you need for a build. Let us know how you get on.
