John,

As someone that would be seriously affected by these proposals I must say a massive thanks and very well done to you, and all involved, for thoroughly trashing the arguments put forward by NIA.

Excellent work !

The letter from the council is not the full story. There are a significant number of strings attached and the permission is only granted up to 31st May 2011. If a further application is not made before that date the permission lapses and the airfield has to close. The full set of restrictions and co...

I’ve done my best to bite my lip up until now but the above post from Rod1 has finally touched one nerve too many. I part own and fly a 4 seat C of A aircraft and joined the LAA just over a year ago. I joined because I felt I had a moral duty to be a member of one of the GA representative bodies and...

My thoughts : 1) Vast majority of ash is at hight altitude - 20,000' ish 2) All indications are that little or no ash is expected to reach ground level in the UK (all the health agencies say no health risk on this basis) 3) Airliners fly at 20K'+ we fly at about 2K' 4) A small gas turbine engine has...

The planning application was finaly heard yesterday but, unfortunately, the outcome was not as supporters of Northrepps had hoped. The result is effectively a state of limbo where a further 12 month period of temporaty permission has been granted. It seems that a vocal minority of locals and in part...

Old Buck Sunday 21st March - Pictures

There was a good turn out at the LAA fly-in at Old Buck today (Sunday 21st March) after bad weather on Saturday. I spent all day taking pictures and I think I have shots of all visiting aircraft. If you flew in it's PROB 90 I have at least one decent image of either your arrival or departure. If any...

Just to keep people advised the following update on the Northrepps planning application was posted on the BMAA Forum by Kevin Smith yesterday. Kevin is one of the people directly involved with the running of Northrepps. It appears the latest hurdle that will have to be climbed over is an interventio...

I found Mike Barnard's article on this subject in the January edition of "Light Aviation" most interesting. The article advocated a rather different, and to me more practical and logical, approach to the future of PPL instrument flying in Europe compared to that being pushed by AOPA. I'm afraid that...

I can only echo Dave Hall’s comments. Paul, with due respect, your comment : “There seems to be a subtle level of snobbery associated with flying on this site that I don't find on other sites” would, IMHO, be a pretty accurate description of the Flyer Forum and I’m astounded you feel that the LAA fo...

Ron - that sounds like an excellent plan :D

There is no doubt that many airfields, including Northrepps, are places of regular pilgrimage so clearly a "place of worship".

My understanding is that the Telephone Airmet service was being withdrawn at the end of October this year as it was hardly being used. It doesn't seem to be mentioned in the 2009 edition of GetMet which can be downloaded via the following link : http://www.metoffice.com/aviation/services/getmet.html...

Latest scores on the doors 266 for, 54 against, 2 "comments". However quality / relevance of comment may as important as quantity of responses. Nick - My interpretation of the noise / property value situation is the same as yours but I'm no expert. I know the people at Nothrepps are very grateful fo...

This morning I got a letter from NNDC confirming receipt of my comments regarding Northrepps. Enclosed with the letter was an advice leaflet about commenting on planning applications. Based on this, and for the benefit of people that have not yet made comments, it would be worth keeping a few points...

Having just spoken to the planning department at North Norfolk District Council can I suggest that the figures for responses to the planning application shown on their web site are NOT up to date. I submitted my comment of support on-line last Sunday afternoon (13th) but as of now (15.30 on the 16th...
