Re: C85 Oil leak
Hi Paul, if you have a leak I'm afraid the answer is to solve it rather than stick some dodgy jollop in the engine - if that stopped the leak then you have to ask what other oil ways is it restricting or blocking. However, I may be the bearer of bad news. These older engines have two studs that are ...

Devon Strut Fly-in Postponed
The Devon Strut has decided to postpone its Fly-in scheduled for Sunday 30th at Dunkeswell due to a very poor weather forecast. As soon a new date is arranged we will announce it here.

Re: Am I too fat
The sums appear to stack up but watch those chocolate digestives Gary. Max authorised is generally 700 lbs, a few are 735 and some examples are quoted as being a fair bit below 700lbs. Typical empty weight is likely to be about 450lbs (the prototype was 410 but that was with a JAP engine, a 1600 VW ...

Hi Andrew, take a look at BMAA Technical leaflet 027 here: http://www.bmaa.org/files/til027_2_inst ... ionics.pdf
I think you'll find the minimum requirements are very basic and the G5 will be more than adequate.

Hi John, I'm certainly not more knowledgeable but I think the official wording is an ICAO compliant medical - which the Self-Declaration and the Medical Declaration before it, are not. The LAPL Medical is probably your best bet if you can't manage a Class 2.

Re: Mounting cameras
Hi James, if you envisage being close to the 250 gram limit but not within it, why not have a word with LAA Engineering to see how best to deal with that. You may be being unnecessarily concerned.

Hi Derek, I am delighted to hear that you are enjoying the magazine. At the moment we don't have a member accessible archive but we are working on the archive and considering what to do with it - unfortunately rather slowly. Every now and again somebody reminds me about this, so now you have I'll di...

Re: NPPL after April 2018
If they permit a student to fly solo in an EASA aircraft on a medical self-declaration then it makes a mockery of the new EASA restrictions on UK and EASA licences. If that's what it takes to get over the problem then I'd prefer to say it was a satisfactory derogation rather than a mockery. EASA ha...

Re: Rand KR2
Hi Tristan. One thing that hasn't been mentioned about the KR2 is the absolute necessity to keep it simple and ensure you build it as light as possible. Of the KRs that have flown in the UK, the majority have been limited to single seat operation because they have been built too heavy. The useful lo...

Re: LAA Permit 2018 8.33 Radio
Good news from the CAA today and well done them for sorting this issue out very quickly. In the recent update of the LA3 equipment approval for 8.33KHz capable radios the changes inadvertently removed the ability to use these devices in class D airspace. This was not the intention and so we have mad...

Hi Ian, it might have been Jon Cooke, who heads up the Association's Pilot Coaching Scheme. He monitors this forum so will no doubt comment if it is him. Pleased to hear Alan has been in touch, they're a very friendly and active bunch in his Strut. I'm not sure there is a lot you can do at the momen...

Re: Rental of LAA aircraft
Hi Oliver, at present I am afraid it is not possible to undertake hire and reward with an LAA Permit aeroplane or microlight, but discussions are ongoing between the LAA and CAA to make this possible. It is impossible to say when a resolution will happen but it is a priority issue for us. In the mea...

Re: 8.33 Radios
Still nothing heard I'm afraid. CAA does seem to have an issue over online stuff, the Self Declaration is still very unreliable and apparently they are having another go at making that work better at the moment. They are obviously aware that there is going to be quite a rush of claims from day one, ...

Re: LAA Permit 2018 8.33 Radio
How will anyone know what you are using? Of course that's true, and how are they going to police it. That's not the point though. For one there are many people who aren't prepared to deliberately break the law, and for two the CAA have arbitrarily excluded 8.33 handheld use in all controlled airspa...
