Re: June Magazine
Only just spotted this, sorry. The June mag went out on time and should have arrived from the first onwards. The vagaries of the post office mean that not everybody will get it on the same day, there seems to be a spread over about 4 days (for UK delivery), but Covid has certainly messed my post up ...

Cub Tour
Hi, I am posting on behalf of Peter Dacey, a non member with a non LAA L4 Cub. He is off on a British Tour, using mainly grass strips and intends taking most of the summer. He says "I am aiming to leave my home base of Denham around mid July and head first to Essex before continuing in an approximat...

Re: Super Emeraude IFR
Hi Matt, if you check out Technical Leaflet TL2.27 you will find a list of likely aircraft that may meet the criteria for night/IFR approval, and the Super Emeraude is included in the section of aircraft likely to be acceptable after further investigation. If you are serious about proceeding, I sugg...

Re: C90 / O-200 operating costs
Hi Steve, you're going to get all manner of opinions so I'll get in early and give you my two-penneth! The C90/O-200 are good solid traditional aircraft engines. My experience has been mainly with the C90, and given the choice I'd have a C90 rather than an O-200. The latter revs a fair bit higher fo...

Re: LAA COVID ADVICE. 11th May 2020
Hi Matt, oh that I could. The inevitability of life was that she discovered boys and it was all David Essex and Cliff Richard. Try as I may, I couldn't steer her down the path of Dylan or the Stones, wrong sort of men apparently. As for the Three Degrees album, went the way of the Barbie dolls I'm a...

Re: LAA COVID ADVICE. 11th May 2020
Well Bev, that’s some post. Given the general situation over the past two months I don’t know whether I should be annoyed at your intolerance, or mildly amused by some of your logic. But if your information on self-isolation in the air came via texts and emails from the States (no tweets?), who am I...

Re: Spraying my aircraft
Hi Bill, if you are inexperienced and doing it 'in the garden' then I'd certainly go with HVLP equipment, it saves on materials and produces far less overspray. I'd steer clear of two pack polyurethanes for two reasons. First they are very toxic and you need to use an air fed mask, and second they a...

Re: Covid-19 Lockdown
Just to be clear, I'm not having a go at anybody here, just expressing an opinion. I would also like to think that when it is patently clear that the vast majority of pilots are toeing the line then more extreme sanctions should be unlikely. Most of us do not operate in a vacuum, whoever was flying ...

Re: Covid-19 Lockdown
As a member, rather than a member of the LAA staff, I can understand that people may get upset that aircraft are flying that they believe should not be. It is patently wrong in the current circumstances. However, unless the complete facts are know then I wonder if we should really be deciding to hol...

Re: Seriously Well Done
Thanks John for your kind words. The good news is that it is our intention to continue to get the magazine out on time every month, despite the unfortunate trying circumstances. I always have worked from home as far as the mag is concerned, and am in touch with all the rest of the staff who are also...

Flight2Hope film
Flight To Hope. A film by Susie Coreth Many of you will recall the inspirational article by Joshua Levine in Light Aviation of June 2019 about sculptor Mark Coreth’s Flight2Hope project. Mark had been commissioned to design a sculpture for the St John of Jerusalem Eye Clinic that represented the his...

Carbon Monoxide poisening
You will no doubt know that CO poisoning has come to the fore again following the AAIB report on the Piper accident down in the Channel Islands. CAA and LAA are highlighting the dangers, in fact we have a piece in the next (April) magazine. Anyway, last night I came across a very interesting intervi...

Sun n Fun postponed
I have just received notification that Sun n Fun has been postponed until May 5 -10 (was March 31 - Apr 5). Not surprised, and wouldn't bet on it going ahead in May either.

Re: Future of the Forum
Hi Bob, Tony, thanks for this. I'll follow up with the office on Monday. I know the website update has been put on hold and expect it is likely to be so until the LAA/BMAA merger decision has been resolved, but if we at least get some sort of decision as to what is required of a new forum it will be...

Re: VW Run-in Schedule
Hi Phil, the traditional advice for conventional aero engines is not to baby them but to use high power settings and straight oil for run in to prevent the bores from glazing. It goes against what most of us with empathy for mechanical things would usually think of doing, but I think it is sound adv...
