Brian Hope

I note from the editorial in this month's LAA mag, that Brian is retiring from his editing duties soon. I just wanted to say a very large "Thank You" to Brian for his hard work and commitment to all things aviation over many years. I have long taken the magazine like a drug of addiction and enjoyed ...

Re: STOLEN ROTAX ENGINES - CAN YOU HELP?

Apropos this appalling spate of stolen engines, I stumbled across a very cheap tracker technology that may be able to track your engine just by affixing a small disc the size of a 10 pence bit somewhere on your engine. This will enable you to trace the whereabouts of your engine with a smartphone. D...

Re: Vibration during cruise descent - Rans S6 / 912

Hmm, thinks!! Another possibility would be to check exhaust can mountings. Bearing in mind that the more thrust produced the more the engine will strain against the rubber mounts, (assuming you have them). This might place stresses on your exhaust mountings and some wear may have resulted. I had a s...

Re: Vibration during cruise descent - Rans S6 / 912

As a wild guess, and assuming you have a nosewheel airframe, I would check to see if various combinations of prop wash and slipstream are causing your nosewheel to spin during flight. If the wheel is out of balance then it may provide the vibration you mention although you don't say if the vibration...

Re: Are we a bunch of Old Farts?

Well, why shouldn't the Old Farts have an association? Apropos the standard of Sywell haute-couture, I rather like the casual nature of attendees' dress sense. I believe members of the LAA span all walks of life, and the fact there is a distinct absence of dressing in order to accommodate the young ...

Re: Third Party Passenger Flying

Am I correct in the assumption that the above edicts apply only where an official LAA organised event is taking place. What is the definition of a "TPPF"? Is this any person who is not a current license holder? It would appear these additional constraints overrule the privileges afforded to a licens...

I went Sunday and had a lovely day. A very nice lunch, very efficient Marsallers who all had a smile on. Weather was great.

Good banter, nice folk. I even had 12 to 15 kts on the tail all the way home.
On return home, 2 pints of Guinness, and a snooze in the garden, a perfect day.

It is my contention, that the unstable meterological conditions experienced over the winter months have resulted in a very high density of 'condensed fun' being deposited in to UK airspace. This 'fun' phenomena can, when appropriately harvested, produce a sensation of'glee'. When the summer actually...

Well, my excuses are, my strip is like a mud wrestling pit, and whats more I'm skint. Nonetheless, I will certainly be around when the runway is firm. It does seem like its been a very long wet boring winter, but the clocks go forward on Sunday, so everything will be ok, provided Petrol does'nt go o...

Thanks Brian et al for the responces. I was aware of the stubs on the Stansted zone, however I had heard that it was to be extended to cover the entire area north of BPK VOR. Thankfully it appears not to be the case. Reading in Loop recently, it appears they now plan to charge us to use the radio on...
