Hi Rob, Thanks for your advice and I had already come to the same conclusion. A local company that I do business with had a ready supply of 6082 T6 and they not only cut and flanged them for me but gave me a spare set in case I make a mess of the first one - they obviously know me too well ! The pan...

Material for Instrument Panel ??

Hi,

I have a really simple question - I am going to make a new instrument panel which has to carry a fair bit of weight and wondered what the best type of aluminium would be ? I am guessing 2024 T3 but thought it might be overkill ?

Thanks
Roger

The bolt coding is something that I puzzled about for years until a machinist at work explained it to me. It seems to be one of those little known facts that are so useful - and obvious once it's explained.

Good luck in your search

The code 8.8 relates to the strength and elasticity as I understand it. The first 8 is an abreviation of 80 kg/sq.mm ultimate tensile strength (the load at which the steel will fail). The second 8 relates to the point at which the steel will begin to stretch plastically - in other words, after which...

Good morning, That's very interesting, thanks. I had been reading up on it last night on the CASA regs (http://www.casa.gov.au/rules/1998casr/021/021c04.pdf)and it looked as though, so long as the plane had been truely amateur built, there wouldn't be a problem. In fact I was feeling very hopeful as...

Moving to Oz

Has anyone any experience of moving a PFA plane to Australia ? I know it's a long shot but just thought someone here may know about this. For example, is it possible to operate it as a G reg aircraft or will it have to be re-registered and how possible is it ?

Thanks for that Sandy. Actually, I wished I that I could have retracted some of what I said last night as it was said in the heat of the moment and just stemmed from a growing frustration. I really did check and check again that application in the hope that it might just slide though as it seems to ...

Good morning Ivan, Thanks a lot - I didn't realise that. The T31, G-BUAC is some way down the road to recovery after lying dormant for many years. The wings have been stripped for recovering and were found to be in remarkably good condition. The fuselage and engine are being tidied up and simplified...

I'm sorry if I sound uptight but I am going to Spain for a few months in a couple of weeks and it pains me that a perfectly airworthy plane has to sit in the hangar again due to paperwork and I probably won't get the chance to fly her before I go.

Ah no, you miss my point. Actually it was the pre-existing radio I failed to list but even so, I was told that it would be a separate matter to the permit renewal and so it wouldn't be delayed athough I had submitted them together. Also, my point was that the mods on the aircraft were all approved a...

Rev counters for use without 12V system

I am putting together a T31 which will only have a magneto and no other electrical systems and I need a rev counter that will work with it. I have a circuit diagram for one but am no good at that sort of thing. Does anyone know of a commercial source ?

I had a problem getting the right shade of white after Randalf changed hands and LAS managed to mix some up of the right colour and even sent a small amount of tint with the new dope so that I could adjust it further if needed. They are definately worth a try.

And another thing - the cheque was cashed as soon as it was received - that bit obviously works well ! Lets see, £135 for the renewal, £70 hangarage, £80 wasted insurance, another month closer to the next 50 hour, quite a few lovely crisp flying days missed - AAHHHHH Dog and girlfriend have now left...
