Re: CAA Consultation

Where change is demonstrated to be needed because a well documented safety case then change should be made. If change is being made simply because it makes it easier for the CAA then it should be resisted. From what I understand the proposed changes will remove many inspectors who have often built t...

Re: LAA Advice on post-lockdown flying

The first accident involved a three axis microlight landing on a 500 m strip. He touched down over halfway down the strip with far too much airspeed. It was an obvious go around situation but the pilot tried to brake and broke through a fence landing in a stream. He was injured but his 95kg passenge...

Re: LAA Advice on post-lockdown flying

Hmmm, I watched an accident happen last year due to poor judgement by the pilot, and watched another yesterday at Wellesbourne, probably due to maintenance or lack of use were the port gear on a retractable twin collapsed on landing. The over regulated lockdown on aviation means pilots are deskilled...

Re: COVID Latest DfT advice, no leisure flying permitted.

People have what seems to me to be a strange way of looking at this. The issues is purely one of safety. I think 600 people logged into the Gasco safety webinar last night, the main focus of which was accidents due to human factors and lack of currency. If memory serves me well less than 30% of part...

Re: COVID Latest DfT advice, no leisure flying permitted.

Dylan, I was going to try include similar points on what I said frankly I find these ‘points’ complete nonsense and speculative made by someone trying to justify the position they have taken. The last couple of times I have done engine health flights and posted on FB server all people hav said the w...

Re: COVID Latest DfT advice, no leisure flying permitted.

While I appreciate the difficult position the LAA is in as it has to be seen to act responsibly I see nothing in the messages that come from Steve that give me confidence that the very real issue of skills fade is being argued anywhere near as robustly as it should be. During one of the periods that...

Re: Import Vans Quickbuild kit

The other alternative if you want to save money is use a trailer which is what I did with a 9 kit. I have an aircraft trailer and it was really loaded up but two of us managed to get it all on and off.

Re: Experience with Electronic Ignition

Alan I think the Pmag will drop straight in, I am pretty sure they have one for Continental Engines. I have two in my RV4 and they are really easy to time. If you run with an EI commander this doubles as a tacho, manifold pressure, oat so you could loose some weight in instruments or add functionali...

Trig Avionics

Great customer support from Trig. I fitted a Transponder about 5 years ago and needed the soft wear updated to enable ADSB output from Pilot Aware. I got the unit to them Monday and it’s on it’s way back now, Tuesday so I will get it tomorrow. Even better the upgrade is free! Trig is also very suppo...

Re: ALL MEMBERS ! Please fill out those proxy forms..!!

Here are the reasons why I’m not answering insistent questions about my flights. 1. There is too much to say for a chat forum. They’re a chapter in the book when I finish it. 2. Anyone who can’t wait could contact me, although it does seem that the obsessive few don’t seek answers, but rather fuel ...

Re: ALL MEMBERS ! Please fill out those proxy forms..!!

Crikey, don’t you guys ever sleep :) Dave, Thanks again for posting the Information. I think you and some others should read it again. I will point out some words and sections that again make it clear to me that some people do not understand what exactly it means. I will try to make this as simple a...

Re: ALL MEMBERS ! Please fill out those proxy forms..!!

Dave, that is not what it says in my log book. I have quoted exactly what it says. It in no way differentiates between which requires two crew and the wording is such and clearly makes a difference in second pilot or first officer. The section about pilots under training is completely different and ...

Re: ALL MEMBERS ! Please fill out those proxy forms..!!

Paul:  Steve: You're misreading that note in the logbook. "Dual or P2" doesn't mean that "Dual" is the same thing as "P2". It's not. P2 can only be logged if the aircraft legally requires two pilots, and the person logging it is filling the second pilot role. Dual is PUT for a single pilot air...
