Re: Engine Hours

Thanks for the replies. So, engine and airframe hours are flight time. My Hobbs will work off oil pressure so not accurate in this case. Guess you have to remember T/O - Ldg times. Or I'm pretty sure the Skyview will have something that can track it. My build inspection schedule lists fuel flow chec...

Re: U-Pol Degreaser

I used U-Pol slow degreaser.

I scuffed with Scotchbrite, cleaned with sugar soap and then degreased. I found it important to ensure that the metal was absolutely dry before spraying. The thinners is not as volatile as (say) acetone and takes a while to evaporate.

Engine Hours

Couple of quick questions about engine paperwork -

- Are engine hours counted from the Hobbs, block time or flight time?

- All the advice and paperwork for fuel flow checks prior to permit issue mention carburetors. Is the check required for injected engines?

Re: UL91

UL91 is AVGAS. As such, it is cut to give it a lower vapour pressure to help avoid vapour lock. On the legal side, your aircraft needs to be approved for MOGAS and the appropriate mods and paperwork completed to use unleaded. For a Lycoming at least, SI1070 gives approval for types to use UL91. The ...

Re: UL91

I see that the approval now runs to many IO540s including the D-series. Good news for us RV10 owners/builders!

I seem to remember that a screw-driver and hammer worked well when I re-built my Mini engine in my youth..........

Re: 8.33hz radios

Funny how things work out. I advertised in VansAirForce and instantly got hits. So it looks like I will upgrade to a 255 and take a (smaller) loss. So if any of you want to do the same, it looks like that is the place to go - provided you don't start to undercut me!

Re: 8.33hz radios

I understand that we have to move on. However, the haste with which this move is being implimented simply causes severe financial penalties for me - and I assume, others. All I am looking for is to get a few years use out of my radio. It would be nice to actually get the aircraft flying before I hav...

Re: 8.33hz radios

Aaaargh! - it gets worse! Even if you could sell your SL30/40 in the US, the new Garmin units are larger and not pin compatible so a refit and re-wire would be needed. Are there any plans for the LAA to challenge these deadlines or even the whiole principle? Or at the least, allow dispensations on t...

Re: 8.33hz radios

On the first point, I would have access to 1/3rd of available frequencies so the chances are I could talk to someone - 118.75 is still useable when it becomes 118.750....... Also, 121.5 would be available. As for the implimentation date, the Feb LAA magazine says that only 8.33mhz radios will be app...

8.33hz radios

OK, probably my fault and I misunderstood the implications of the introduction of the 8.33hz radios. Last (I thought) I heard, the issue was put on the back-burner and there were no immediate plans to make them mandatory at lower levels. I know you should leave the avionics purchase as late as possi...

Re: Jack-plugs

Yes, thanks. I had thought of that - not sure if the thread would be the same. Actually, if the sockets would work with the headset plugs, they look a lot easier to solder and fit than the ones I got with my Audio Panel. I have thought of a different way to do what I need to do (get the sockets thro...

Re: CAA & EASA

It took them a month to do a simple SEP re-validation on my licence in the summer. Got all sorts of conflicting stories and excuses when, in fact, all the paperwork and payments were 100% correct. It was very annoying as I couldn't go flying when I wanted. I think they are maxed out..... I need to r...

Thanks Guys

Remember now that I used Model Fixings previously for a #4 tap - just couldn't place the name - duh!

Now I can finish my baffles!
