Re: Gascolator position
The standard VANS design has the fuel lines, selector, pump, filter and fuel flow sensor all in the tunnel. All the mod does is substitute a gascolator for the filter. The logic for this was that the wing drains trap any water and the gascolator has it's own filter screen. It makes maintenance easie...

Re: Gascolator position
Not sealed as such, but fully enclosed. All the fuel system components and lines to the engine are in the tunnel.

Re: 100LL Vapour Lock
There are 2 issues. Radiant heat from the firewall and bottom skin (exhausts) and the hot air ducting running to the rear seats. I've insulated behind the heat box on the front of the firewall and the front face and bottom of the tunnel. I will also wrap the scat tube once it's fitted. It's a well d...

Re: Gascolator position
I have the gascolator in the tunnel on my RV-10. I have repeated a mod used by Roger Hopkinson on the first -10. Basically, it was accepted that the gascolator was never going to be lower that the wing drains. We have fitted the Andair unit with the screw on bowl and deleted the fuel filter and the ...

Re: 100LL Vapour Lock
Thanks Bertram Probably just a bit too much information....... I think I will step back a bit and forget about the vapour lock issue - doesn't seem like it can happen while the engine is running. I'll concentrate more on what are desirable tunnel temperatures and especially what might constitute a f...

100LL Vapour Lock
I am building a RV-10. It has a known issue with high temperature in the tunnel where the fuel lines run. I am insulating various components to mitigate this but am also fitting a OAT probe to monitor the temperature on my Skyview. Despite trying to research this on the net, I am unable to come up w...

Sorry to harp back to this but I am totally confused! Lycoming's new SI1070Q approves UL96 for many engines. Not, sadly, most IO540s. Can anybody give me some insight as to why it's approved for 8.5:1 IO360 engines but not the equivalent IO540? What am I missing? Especially as the IO540 is approved ...

Emag P200
Any of you RV-10 builders or other IO540 operators who are considering electronic ignition, some news. Emag finally seem to be close to releasing the P200 6 cylinder version. I get the impression it will be rolled out at Oshkosh. I intend to order and put in a mod application with engineering for a ...

As I have said in my previous posts, none of it seems to make sense! Unless you have a high compression or turbo-charged engine, I really don't see why all standard 8.5:1 engines can't be approved. Having said that, I see that the Total fuel doesn't have a rich rating in the EASA doc. Maybe it's jus...

The fact is that there are plenty of 8.5:1 compression ratio 4 cylinder engines approved for Mogas and UL91. Lycoming never approved any of the 6-cylinder engines despite being the same compression - probably due to liability issues associated with the larger aircraft using the engine. Perhaps I did...

UL91/96 for IO540?
I see with (possible) dismay that the LAA approval for UL91/96 Avgas does not include the IO540. This is despite the fact that it is approved by Lycoming under SB1070Q (but not Mogas or 80/87 Avgas as required by the LAA document). Since the 540 is simply a 360 with an extra bank of cylinders, I fai...
