I believe Roger's -10 does have a permit - I guess the paperwork is just catching up. As for the capabilities of the -10, I am building mine to IFR/night spec in the hope that it will be permitted in 3 or 4 year's time. I'm one of the 1% who has an IR. This aeroplane will take 4 people and 100lb bag...

Actually, JC5A is about 5x the price but a far superior product. If you are going to use it on every joint, the cost will be significant. It is also messy and can affect the quality of the riveting if overdone. The latest batch I bought used barium chromate rather than zinc chromate for reasons, I a...

That's all great info. What are the implications concerning nearby military airfields? I know I am well inside the MATZ and MAY just be inside the 2nm civil ATZ. Obviously I would liase with the SATCO but is there any legal impediment? Also, do I understand that I can put up a "farm" building withou...

Farm Strip Regulations
Can someone give me some guidance or point me to the right documents concerning the regulations for farm strips? I have been told that provided it is used for less than 28 days a year then no planning permission or approval is required and it is simply necessary to register it with the CAA. I can't ...

Static mod
To save me re-inventing the wheel, does anyone have info on a static port mod submisson involving a machined/tapped port such as SafeAir/Avery/Aircraft Spruce offerings - preferably on a VANS aircraft. As it's a pretty "standard" mod, I don't expect any issues but is there any specific flight testin...

Priming completed sections
I am starting to get a selection of completed parts which (sadly!) are going to need storing for 2-3 years before final assembly. Inevitably, I have collected the odd small scratch and ding and at least some of the Alclad has been scuffed off in places, and I am concerned about corrosion protection....

Insurance
The bits of my aircraft and the tools have got to the stage where they are actually worth something! How have people insured their kits and tools during the build? Do you need a specialist aviation insurer or can you just include it in the household insurance (I am building in the garage)? If the fo...

This is an ICAO requirement and is designed to ensure that all nationalities have an adequate standard of English. I am an examiner with Cathay Pacific and a couple of years ago I had to do a short one-day course to allow me to assess English capability and we were provided with "word pictures" to a...

Interesting about the VGs - I read about them on the net and seemed like a "good" thing. Be interested in the LAA engineering view and the eventual outcome/effectiveness. The manoeuvre speed is the minimum speed you can pull the structural g-limit without stalling. If your VG mod keeps the airflow a...
