I have previously built an RV-10 and am in the process of building a Bearhawk Bravo - both now in South Africa.
The RV-10 is fantastic. It'll certainly fulfill your mission and then some. The only thing against it is that you will find that the UK doesn't really allow you to use it's full potential ...

Re: Overseas Aircraft Moving
I had a serious look at flying her down but the cost was truly eye-watering to get a professional company to arrange it. Couple that with the poor security situation in North Africa and I (my wife... ) decided the best option would be to container her (the aeroplane, not my wife!).

Overseas Aircraft Moving
OK, so I have only been flying a few months, but when the build takes nearly 9 years, your lifestyle choices change......
I need to move my RV10 to South Africa, probably in the Spring. There was a company that used to advertise in the Mag (Big Misters?), but I believe they have ceased business ...

That's it - brilliant! Thanks a lot. Hoping to fly my aircraft down to SA sometime - if I can ever manage to get it finished...... These look like people who could help.

Self Fly Safari
Some months ago, there was an advert in the magazine for self-fly safaris to South Africa. Now I can't find it! Anyone have the website address?

Re: Push rod ends: UK suppliers
The aileron and elevator runs in the RV10 are both push-rod so there are various bellcranks and the like to join rods. The bearings are a mix of 3/16 and 1/4. There doesn't seem to be any logic as to why and I can't imagine the shear loads would be high enough to get anywhere near ultimate strength ...

Re: Push rod ends: UK suppliers
OK, here's how it works in the RV-10 for the short run from the wing bellcrank to the aileron. The tube is a 1/2" steel with .035" walls. Into this slides a fitting (AN490HT8P) which is secured by 2 AN4-11 rivets slightly staggered at right angles. The extension is threaded - I assume 1/4" since the ...

Re: Push rod ends: UK suppliers
One of the rods on the RV-10 aileron control has a 1/2' tube with a bearing fitting on the end secured with 2 1/8 rivets. IIRC, the fitting went inside the tube. I'm at the hangar tomorrow - I'll check it out

Is this the one?

Shows as not held in stock but can be ordered. Bit pricey, though! The way cheaper Aurora only has the 1/4 - 28 thread.

Re: Safety Equipment
Can't find anything in CS23 that mentions Fire extinguishers or First Aid kits. I agree 100% that both should be fitted - I was just looking at the paperwork issues. Since it is optional, I guess it is included in the basic weight and not the empty weight.

Safety Equipment
Is it a legal requirement to have a fire extinguisher and/or First aid kit fitted? If so, do they need to be aviation specific or can I get them from Halfords?
If it's a legal necessity, I guess they would be included in the empty weight, otherwise basic weight, n'est par?

Re: Aircraft insurance during build
I am away so can't check the policy but I don't remember any particularly onerous restrictions. They've certainly been very easy going with increasing value and transit coverage for the move to the hangar - just phoned them up and told them what I need.

Re: 8.33 on second VHF box?
Short answer - no. It doesn't work that way and once an area is dedicated to 8.33 you can't use a 25 box. See John Brady's excellent article in the mag a few months back.

Re: Aircraft insurance during build
I don't know what you consider to be "eye-watering"......
I insured through Jennings for about 1% of value. They were happy to include tools and increase the amount as more was added to the airframe.

You can get it from LASAero - not sure if it qualifies as "reasonably priced".......
