Re: July LAA magazine
Sorry to see the departure of Jerry Parr. Is this why permit renewals are taking much longer as revealed in the magazine.

Re: Magneto repairs
I had one supposedly overhauled by them years ago. There was one guy there, can't remember his name. Who I believed specialised in BTH mags, so I was lucky. If he did them they were usually fine. He retired quite a few years ago. All said I know one other friend who had problems with them.

Re: Insurance during lockdown
Yes, my insurers were very helpful and reduced my policy to ground cover which includes allowance for several hours solo flight for the purpose of test flights etc. How much I will save remains to be seen but it has been on ground over a Month now! I should also add, I received a refund very quickly.

Has anyone here used Gosnay's for such things as valve guide replacement, valve and valve seat grinding etc on their Gipsy?
If so I would appreciate any feedback,
Thanks.

Re: Auster on an LAA permit?
Yes Austers can and are operated on an LAA permit scheme, but you need to find an approved LAA engineer/Inspector. There is a list of them on this site.

Has anyone used Total D100 as opposed to Aeroshell W100?
Are there any opinions on performance or are they very comparable ? For use in a G Major 10-1-1

Painting Gipsy Major cylinders
What is the best Black paint option for coating the cylinders ? It has been suggested that a ' Rock hard coatings ' product be used, but it works out way to expensive for doing up to 4 cylinders ! LAS list a black engine enamel, has anyone used it ? And if so what are the results like, especially in...

Re: Aircraft Painting
Have you looked at LVLP guns, there are a good range to suit most pockets. Typically they only require 3 - 5 cfm and 25 - 40 psi, just a thought!

Re: Aircraft Painting
Not disputing your figures, Brian, re the 10 US gals of Polytone to spray paint a Cub, I've read that myself in the Poly-Fibre manual, but it does seem like a hell of a lot to me. Would that provide 2 or more coats?

Gipsy Major nut/ bolt threads
Does anyone know what thread the small '2 BA' size nuts are that retain the 2 triangular shaped gauze oil filter covers ? A 2BA socket fits the nut externally, perfectly, but the thread definitely isn't BA! I was told they're metric, 5mm is the closest fit but it isn't a standard 0.8mm pitch. There ...

Re: Inspection/access zips on fabric
Rob, what you describe is pretty much how I envisaged it would go, except that as far as I can see LAS, Skycraft, Polyfiber et'all don't list zips pre stitched to a fabric patch! Any idea who does them?
