Re: Email from LAA ltd

update as of 1500 Confirmed as NOT a Scam but no explanation as to why it originated from a non LAA email address It seems highly questionable to me that the original notification email originated from non LAA address. Without advance warning that Gocardless is now their 3rd party provider that wou...

Re: Email from LAA ltd

Colin, The most reasonable explanation is that this is a scam so my recommendation would be to ignore the 'notification' and do not follow any links therein. With the recent scam activity within the LAA and possible data breaches you might also consider canceling your existing direct debit and, if y...

Re: Noise reduction

Jim Crawford, My RF3 has a VW based engine with these mufflers on either side. Pretty standard on all Fourniers. mufflers.jpg Not a full silencer but they are effective, as I found out many years ago when the manacle clamp on one side loosened and the pair fell off on take off! Material is 35m diame...

Light Aviation article June 2020

This forum has been very quiet of late so I was pleased to see the piece in the latest edition of Light Aviation on Peter Watson's CX-4, though perhaps Peter might be a little miffed that it was an American example that made the front cover. I've liked the look of the Thatcher for a long time, thoug...

Re: Wittman W8 Plans

Hi Phil, I have a set for the W8 but having had a quick look through them I can see no information about where to position a static port, nor indeed where to position the pitot head. The drawings seem to deal purely with the structural. So I guess what you have is a static line just into the cockpit...

Re: MOGAS availability in Scotland?

I can't think of a single one. I agree with Trevor's comment that it's cans from a local filling station, hopefully not too far distant. That might be OK if it's just a few litres and the filling station isn't too far but for a jerry can or two you're going to need transport. It doesn't help that fi...

Re: Letov Sluka.

Bill, I cannot advise on the engineering aspects of changing to a square or rectangular hollow section but depending on the required length of the round tube insert might it be possible to have an insert custom machined and fitted? If you think that might be a way forward and you want to discuss wit...

Re: heat exchanger

It should certainly not be loose as vibration will eventually cause it to fret it's way through the exhaust pipe allowing exhaust gasses (CO) into your cabin heat, and you don't want that. When I bought my own little aeroplane it had a poorly executed home-brewed shroud for carb heat which destroyed...

Re: wooden propeller tracking

Tony (Altsel), it seems a reasonably straightforward process and as no one else has responded this is how I do mine. My prop is a wooden, fixed pitch, two blade with 6 No. M8 bolts. Manufacturer torque limits are stated as 15-17 Nm. You will have appropriate manufacturer values for your prop. Things...

Re: Converting plans/templates into AutoCAD files

Chris, I'm pretty sure what you suggest is not possible. Sure, you can use a scan as a background image in AutoCAD, but there will be no vector information to work with, it's just a scan, a raster image and hardly reliable for precision cutting. Your point about bend allowances is interesting, thoug...

With digital you have to read and assimilate the number(s) but with analogue you need only...

Re: Out of the box

Chris, from my reading of the article it seems clear to me that Ian wasn' t kidding himself on that he was fully equipped for IFR. Rather that by making use of modern electronic technology he was giving himself more options should he ever find himself in unexpected and deteriorating conditions, and ...

Out of the box

My December copy of Light Aviation arrived today and I have to applaud the piece by Ian Fraser on his approach to upgrading his RV6 instrument panel. A sensible, level headed and practical approach to incorporating modern technology replacing old and less reliable 'certified' kit. I also approve the...
