I'm currently running a VW 'open port' on my Nipper and would be interested in any simple noise reduction exhaust scheme as I hope to move to a farm strip in a year or so and it seems like a good idea to keep the neighbours happy.

Re: Spray systems
The standard silver UV coat is rather dark and dull. Rather than overcoat with clear I've thought (for a future project with silver wings) that I would use one of the metallic silver finish coats - Nevada Silver springs to mind, although I don't have the Ceconite colour chart to hand to check. As a ...

Re: Spray systems
I've used the Apollo HVLP for Ceconite Nitrate/Butyrate recovering. Once set up no problems and a good traditional semi-matt finish. Even though the HVLP system has less overspray than a standard compressor and high pressure gun, you still need a good extractor fan to keep the air clean, good lighti...

Re: Electrical connector for T&S
That looks like something I used to know as a 'Plessey plug'. I think they are obsolete now. You could trawl the Souriau and Amphenol website catalogues to find one with the correct orientation, pin size, and shell size. That should while away a few hours followed by a trip to A&E when you find out ...

mystery magneto.
Hi all,
In a box of bits which came with several VW engines I recently acquired there was this dual mag.
Can anybody shed light on what it may have been used for?

VW engine for conversion
Hi All, I've just taken delivery of some VW engines and parts for conversion. In the pile is a type 4 engine which I don't need as I'm more interested in the type 1 which is fitted to the small single seaters - Nipper, Taylor Monoplane and the like. The type 4 is slightly larger with sturdier intern...

Re: 1834VW spark plugs
Many thanks Roger, I've gone for a set of Bosch WR8AC which happened to be under offer at Europarts for 90p (!) each. These are for my Ardem engine in the Nipper. Last year I gave my SR4 'Peacock' set to a school in Newquay who are refurbishing a FRED. In exchange they have cut the second plug hole ...

1834VW spark plugs
Any recommendations for spark plugs for a Rollason Ardem 1834 engine? The Rollason engine data sheet says Lodge HN or Champion LT which are old designations. The current alternatives appear to be Champion L82C or Bosch W7AC. However the Beetle suppliers all say the original manufacture plugs were Bo...

Re: Rally thoughts
As above, a superb rally. Many thanks to all involved with the organisation. Arrived early Friday afternoon, departed Sunday afternoon, campsite usual smooth operation - thank you Andover strut. I don't think I've seen so many pitches before. I spent hours talking with friends old and new, spent som...

Rally camping booking
OK, I'm prepared to believe I'm missing something but when I attempt to prebook a campsite slot I just get directed to the online shop which doesn't offer me any option to buy a rally camping ticket.
Is it me or is there a problem with the booking process?

Re: Zenith carburettor spares or replacement
Thanks Paul and David for the leads on possible suppliers. Neither Riddies nor Gower and Lee have the type on their website so I'll email them with a direct enquiry. The last time I did this the conversation ended with the carburettor specialist firm asking what type of vehicle it was for. In respon...

Re: Dual battery setup for Leberg ignition
Neil, When I initially attempted to get my conversion approved without the alternator by engineering I was pointed at the EASA construction standards which require an engine driven power source to charge the battery (ies). I'm sure that the LAA doesn't have to rigidly follow the CS requirements as l...

Zenith carburettor spares or replacement
Hi All, My Rollason 'Ardem' engine (Tipsy Nipper) is fitted with a Zenith 32KL-P10 carburettor. Has anybody any source for a service kit for this unit? I cannot find one. Maybe it is just the gasket which separates the bowl from the throttle portion. Alternatively is anybody using an alternative car...
