Re: Aircraft 'Painting'?
Not yet no, i'm a long way off finishing at the moment. I've seen enough of them in the USA to know it is feasible though. I might even have a bash at it myself. Whats the worst that can happen? There are lots of youtube videos and courses showing the process on cars which seem much more difficult w...

Re: Aircraft 'Painting'?
I've pretty much decided i'll be going down this route with my RV. It will be painted white all over with other colours and designs added by wrapping. I'll possibly get it done by a local painter in the white before it's assembled. It would be nice to get it done as I build but I need to make sure t...

Re: Duralac/JC5A and Cromate confusion.
For my RV i'm using an automotive primer which i'm really happy with in terms of ease of application and durability. I then use Duralac between joints and dip each rivet in it too. It may seem overkill to some but my aircraft will be based on the south coast so i'm not taking any chances. If you go ...

Re: Converting plans/templates into AutoCAD files
I started to do something similar using my plans for the Marquart Charger. I would recommend something like Inventor or Solidworks rather than AutoCAD but as said you will need to redraw the items. I believe you can get a free Solidworks licence with an EAA membership. It is possible to convert PDF ...

Engine Type Approval
Has anyone gone through the process of getting a different engine approved for a particular aircraft?
What would be the process for this? There are examples of this engine/aircraft combination flying in the USA but it is not approved as an aero engine in the UK as far as I can see.

Rally Fleamarket Spitfire Plans
Hi There was a box of Isaacs Spitfire plans at the rally fleamarket and I have been kicking myself all weekend that I did not at least put in an offer. Does anyone know whether they sold? I realise you can get a set of plans but these were interesting as a collectors item as they came with some corr...

Re: Steen Skybolt 3 piece Wing
Hi I didn't proceed with the Skybolt. I had a few designs in mind staring with the Flitzer (Too small for me unfortunately) Skybolt and Mustang but settled on an RV7. I may build from plans next but for now I am very glad that I chose a kit with lots of other builder resources and advice available f...

I am happy to wait for access to the scanned versions. I have too many books and magazines as it is.It was actually Mike Freeman that I was asking if he still wanted the magazines.

Steen Skybolt 3 piece Wing
Hi I am in the process of deciding which aircraft to build and the Skybolt was one of my options that I ruled out due to the one piece wing and the space needed. There is a 'D' version that uses a 3 piece wing. The LAA datasheet however says this cannot be built. Does anyone know why this is or know...

Re: Welding your own fusalage
Thanks, I will look into that.
The plan is to build wing ribs whilst practicing my welding and getting approved.
What would be the spec for a tig welder that is capable of welding 4130 without breaking the bank?

Re: Welding your own fusalage
Thanks Colin,
I have just been reading Peters build log and I will look into doing a similar thing. I had thought you needed to be an experienced welder with many years under your belt but it seems it is achievable.
