The cynic in me says that the unreasonable original proposal was deliberately over the top, so that LAA et al can claim 'victory' in negotiating a less onerous outcome. So the authorities get what they really wanted all along, LAA claims some credit, and flyers generally accept the compromise. Have ...

After a long time thinking about it, I have invested in a syndicated Dragonfly! A few points I think are interesting about it: - It seems expensive, but you can tell where the money goes - Its definately a powered hanglider (not a microlight), it don't wanna come down - No instruments, no fuselage, ...

Brian

Great news.

Having just comissioned a CMS-based web site myself, I know what you are going through.

See, we can all play nicely together and the Forum does have its uses!

Mike Thanks too for your comments, I am pretty sure nearly everyone on here has an LAA administered machine, and is appreciative of the services it provides to members to further their flying interests. Personally I've just rediscovered the joys of very open cockpit flying in a new SSDR! Please bear...

...please do throw in any ideas you have on what you want on the new site and we'll do our best to accommodate them. Brian I'm thinking you already have this fully covered but you did ask for input: Back Room: 1) The new site MUST use a proper CMS (Content Management System), and for this there mus...

Okay - time to get this thread back to the top! Lets review where we got to about a year ago: 1)We said that electric motors and controllers were good enough already, it's the energy storage that needs attention. Were we right? Yep - a year on batteries to give decent endurance are still far too exp...

I have decided to subject each 20l of freshly drawn Mogas to the 'CAA Test' before putting it the aeroplane, assuming it passes, and then making a note in a log.

I may have to rethink this if the fuel consistently fails the test!

Thanks

I would like to build an SSDR that can fold down and fit inside an average family car (maybe with some long bits in a bag on the roof, like a hang glider).

Anyone know of any plans or kits, maybe utilising an existing hang glider wing?

Cheers

Okay, so the report is done, I might even have struggled through and read it! What it does not say is if I fly my Mogas Rotax aeroplane legally in the UK with (say) 3% bio-ethanol from my local branded petrol station (of which I have now have no choice). If I need to make an insurance claim, could m...

Are there many (or any) kit-build SSDR flex-wing designs available? (perhaps with the wing bought-in from a hanglider maker).

I quite fancy a Dragonfly, but they are not good value for money.

Don't make me go over to the BMAA!

Gents

That looks like sensible advice, I will follow it and report my findings.

(I should be able to find a spare syringe outside my local high school, judging by the local newspaper)

Testing an Altitude Encoder on the ground

We have an Ameriking altitude encoder connected to a Garmin GTX328 transponder. It works extremely well, but there is a problem. Above 6,200 ft (ish from memory), it begins to read 52,000 ft ish (again ish for poor memory reasons). This gives ATC people a bit of a shock, so we want to fix it. I have...

Have you thought about putting up a fence all round the strip/apron area? An electric fence would be cheap and easy to do, and they do stop horses and children, and they are easy to 'open' to let a vehicle in and out. 'Crossing' a fence, even one wire, does have a tangible mental 'trespass' factor a...

The Yuneec proposition is very interesting indeed. It breaks the 'develop a new power plant in an established airframe, or vice versa' old rule by being a new airframe and motive power system. It is also interesting to see what seems like a home-grown Chinese organisation doing development and not j...
