Re: medicals

I was in a similar situation earlier this year; medical expired, cert of experience expired (Permit expired for that matter!). Had to sort the lot out. First the medical (being over 60), expired class 2 . Doc suggested LAPL medical as it was 2 years and NO ECG. £100 instead of £240....... Next, I co...

Re: Rally 2013

Steve, Good to see you at the Rally by the way :-) Further to Brian's post, I too think you got it wrong re non-members; it's worth pointing out that actual non-member numbers were up 500 on last year (whilst members by road were actually down although I don't have the numbers). It was in fact anoth...

Re: Are we a bunch of Old Farts?

Ian, I can't remember our conversation but I'm sure I would have said that it was OK for pilots to use the campsite facilities :D I might have said we weren't able to supply showers airside? However for all who read this; as Brian said, the showers ARE available for visiting pilots! As for dress sen...

Sywell Strut next meeting to appoint officers etc.

Folks, next meeting is on Jan 30th - 7.30pm in the bar of The Aviator Hotel for 8.00pm in 'The Club Room'. We had decided that this would be the day we actually become a formal strut so please try to attend if you are serious about the success of this strut at one of the best locations!

Re: Laurie Shaw

I heard of Laurie's passing from Brian Hope yesterday. I was particularly sad to hear it; Laurie and I got on very well and he was particularly supportive of my efforts on the old PFA EC and my subsequent election to Vice Chairman during that period. I had a great respect for his wisdom regarding th...

Re: Third Party Passenger Flying

Jim, I too was pretty miffed at the 65 year rule having just met that criteria! Considering that insurers currently consider 80 the cut off for solo flying in group aircraft I wonder WHO came up with this little gem? I bet they were a lot younger than our average age member - I also wonder what stat...

Re: Minnow fish carb on VW

Thankyou Nigel, Any information would be great. Chris had done the usual web search and has also spoken to the company that originaly made these carbs. What he was hopping for was to be able to talk to somebody with first had experiance of actualy using one. Stuart Stuart, I've just heard that Mick...

Re: Minnow fish carb on VW

A buddy of mine did hundreds of hours in his Sonerai 2 with a Fish (it was a Reece Fish, is that the same?)

These units were used on racing minis donkey's years ago. I'll have a word with him.

Re: Powered Towbar

I have to move my Taylorcraft sideways in/out of our Polytunnel hangar. My original design was based on a tethered 12v boat winch and a constant loop which required a pulley outside beyond the ultimate position of the 'sideways' trolley (easier to understand in a picture!). I had built the trolley w...

Re: Rotax and Avgas

Simon Westley (Westley Aircraft) had a depressing selection of Rotax and Jabiru heads on his bench a couple of weeks ago - all with stuck valve problems due to the CAA requirement of running on Avgas in certified a/c. Mogas every time he says!

Sywell Strut 2nd Meeting

The 2nd Sywell Strut meeting will be held next Wednesday (31st October) at the Aviator Hotel. We have a speaker (and hopefully a new strut member) - Peter Harvey will be giving us a talk with slides about the 2012 World Gliding Championships in Texas. Peter came 5th; no mean feat! He promises me tha...
