Re: Southend Controlled Airspace
James seems to have 'Yuri Gellered' this thread away from what it was originally about, and steered it towards the idea that he flies through Class D and why don't we all just follow suit. Firstly, I'm not one of these 'flat-earther' types who will gladly fly the length and breadth of the country an...

Re: 8.33hz radios
Deferral or no deferral , I don't unfortunately think that there's any getting away from this. It's coming , as sure as eggs is eggs. So we'll all have to comply eventually . I certainly agree with Alan about shelling out prematurely though , as I don't think that this 8.33Khz business will be witho...

Re: 8.33hz radios
Nigel. Along with I suspect a few others, I have been in contact with Icom UK , who were very helpful in their reply, stating that they are indeed in contact with a CAA Working Group who are in turn liaising with 'The Clueless Ones' with regard to the IC-A6E , IC-A24E and the panel mounted IC-A210E ...

Re: Check flights for Permit renewals no longer mandatory?
Well spotted Bill ! You're on the ball mate. At first glance it looks like it only relates to EASA types , but upon opening up the pdf it definitely looks like it includes national PtF types too. It definitely makes sense to LAA types , as most of our fleet are probably only flown by a small number ...

Re: Terror in the skies
Saw a bit of this in C4 on Demand after reading this post . I could only manage about 4 minutes of it . I certainly couldn't hold on long enough to see him talking about defective washers or slat/flap systems. You have to remember that our 'Professor' friend is really only trying to placate the prog...

Re: Are we a bunch of Old Farts?
.............and judging by some of the hideous atrocities on view at Royal Ascot this week , I think we've got it just about right . [ even the horses must be laughing ] And to reinforce the words of the Lady Pilotess , an idiot in smart clothing is still an idiot . By the way , where did the chap ...

Re: Are we a bunch of Old Farts?
We do tend to beat ourselves up a bit over this 'old fart' business . Sure, the average age of LAAers has crept up slightly , but on the plus side , we are living longer and healthier lives these days than previous generations, so why shouldn't we continue doing what we love for as long as we're abl...

Re: Are we a bunch of Old Farts?
Blimey Nigel.. What are you trying to do mate , start World War 3 ? You are probably right in principle on both points , but one has to bear in mind that as far as dress is concerned , it is a leisurely weekend event and many will have sat in the confines of an aeroplane for a few hours to get there...

Re: 8.33hz radios
Brian , the content of your last posting is actually very much appreciated mate . I know that as one of the few representatives of the 'hierarchy' [sorry] that venture onto this forum, you probably take a disproportionate amount of body blows , but at least it is comforting to know that there are ot...

Re: 8.33hz radios
I reckon that old Brian is confusing two separate issues here . His first paragraph is taken up completely with the fight against bringing in 8.33Khz bandwidth spacing. Yes, it was an unwinnable fight , but we're not talking about that are we. We are talking about the most painless way of complying ...

Re: 8.33hz radios
Nigel , we have got political clout . You can't tell me that an Association that is trying to bring in IFR privileges for PtF type aeroplanes, and now has a guy inside the CAA to forward that cause, can't put up a strong enough case for continuing the use of handheld radios amongst its 8,300 strong ...

Re: 8.33hz radios
Brian,,,I say old boy, bit of a heavy handed one that wasn't it ! "There's a process of approval of radios that meet the laid down requirement" - I'm sure many of us have probably noted that the greatest aviating nation in the world , the Yanks , approve Icoms and several other manufacturers hand-he...
