Re: Scaling up scaled down aircraft

If I stretch my memory back nearly five decades, I recall that the Reynolds number could be thought of as a "dimensionless velocity" and is very useful for understanding flow characteristics in particular the change from laminar to turbulent flow. Another dimensionless group is the Prandtl number wh...

Re: EASA Part NCO and Carriage of PLB and ELT Equipment

Am I correct in my interpretation that carrying a PLB will meet the requirement?

Re: EASA Part NCO and Carriage of PLB and ELT Equipment

I fly an ARV Super2 which is on an EASA permit administered by the LAA. Can somebody give me a definitive answer as to whether I need to carry a PLB or ELT after 1 August 2016? Given some of the places that I fly over, it may well be a good idea anyway but I'd like an authoritative answer to this.

Re: 912s running too cool in Foxbat

I have a 912ULS running in my ARV Super2. The oil cooler and water radiator are in a scoop half way down the fuselage and the nacelle itself is well ventilated so it's all as well cooled as it could be. Oil and water temperatures, without an oil line thermostat, are around 100 C. I doubt very much w...

Re: rotax cold start problems

For what it's worth, after balancing the carbs on my 912ULS I found that the idle was rather on the slow side and the throttle needed to be opened just a touch to get it to start, otherwise it would "kick back" and not start. It only requires a very slight touch to make the difference between firing...

Re: Desert Island Discs - Winkle Brown

It was a great programme and complimented the recent documentary very nicely. His polite but pointed comments during the recent referendum in Scotland were very much what would be expected. More to the point from an aviation perspective was his emphasis on careful planning and preparation as the sec...

Re: PERMIT OR EASA

For what it's worth - I have an ARV Super2 on an EASA permit to fly controlled by the LAA; all the operation is exactly the same as for a CAA permit. I have had to change my NPPL for an LAPL in order to continue flying it, which at least means the the plane and I can now fly to any EASA country with...

Re: ARV Super 2 at Oshkosh. Photos found

Hi,

Yes please, I would love copies of any ARV Super2 material. I own and fly G-OTAL, which was the first one to be fitted with the Rotax 912, by Nigel Beale, and am keen to find any material available on the type.

Best regards,

"Amy Johnson" airport in the Thames Estuary

Am I the only person who thinks that if a Thames Estuary airport ever gets built that it should be named after Amy Johnson? It would be highly appropriate for this brave pioneer to be remembered where she lost her life serving her country. If anyone else agrees could I suggest an email to Boris John...
