Re: Jabiru engined a/c Limitations

Just to clarify; I made the original post because both my local friends with Jab engines knew nothing about the issue in Aus and were somewhat alarmed by the official document from the Australian regulator. I made no suggestions - only asked the question re what, if anything, the LAA were considerin...

Re: Jabiru engined a/c Limitations

"Jabiru engines have been around since the 1990's and haven't been on the receiving end of any more incident reports than Rotax's" Some Australian stats here. Looks like the Jab is around 66 percent less reliable than Rotax. Reported data for 2014 year to date (January through October) Hours flown J...

Re: 8.33hz radios

I have approached one of the radio suppliers and if I buy 4 radios of any make or model other than Garmin or BK I can get a discount. I have suggested to the LAA that if it organized the purchase of 1000 radios the discount could be quite impressive… Currently helping a friend fit a Trig radio and a...

“Can anybody give me some insight as to why it's approved for 8.5:1 IO360 engines but not the equivalent IO540?”

Possibly! The Lyk SB is a position at a point in time. Testing is on-going with engines not on that list and some will be added. Lyk cannot test everything simultaneously!

When I did this a few years ago LLA eng insisted I fitted a FLOSCAN. Nothing else was allowed. Works well with my MGL Enigma but you will need to tweak the K factor over time to get it spot on.

Collision avoidance – help requested!

I am running a test of light GA collision avoidance equipment and technology as part of an official LAA project. The results will hopefully help reduce the number of collisions in the future. The results will be written up and will appear in a few months in the mag. The test will cover PCAS, FLARM a...

I have permission to post under the name Rod1 on this forum and this allows me to skate round two sets of rules which I have no control over. It is however not my intention to cause the LAA embarrassment so I have sent a message to our moderator with an offer to cease to post here. If he decides tha...
