Has anyone got a Big-Sert kit?

We need to re-repair a spark plug hole in a VW head -- the hole was apparently Helicoiled in the past, but the insert has come loose and the threads cut for it are damaged. So we are looking at putting a larger 18mm diameter insert in. Has anyone got the Big-Sert kit for this that they could lend us?

If not suitable, maybe the manufacturers mentioned, K&S Engineering, can help.

New types progress chart

The new types progress chart on the website (http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co. ... Chart.html) says "Updated 5th March 2015". Any chance this might get updated one of these days...?

Re: VW Engine Head - drilling

You could try Engine Machining Services, near Aylesbury: 01296 655885. (They refurbished our VW heads recently -- good job/fair price -- and I would think that there's not much they couldn't do headwise.)

Re: LAA COVID ADVICE. 11th May 2020

With respect, Steve, I think you should at the very least have waited until the government releases details of the next phase at 2pm today. This morning the situation is indeed (officially) unchanged; this afternoon, who knows? If this afternoon it is announced that solo/household outdoor activities...

Re: Open cockpit flying during winter

I used to fly a D9, and did venture out on cold winter days... Thermal long-johns and vest essential for me. Followed by a T-shirt, a shirt a jumper and a good fleece. Jeans are OK, but some thermal-lined Craghopper trousers better. My hands are prone to chilling, but I didn't like flying in thick g...

Re: CS Prop Systems - Airmaster versus Woodcomp

It might be worth looking at the Idro variable as fitted to the Pioneer 300. It is a self contained hydraulic system and can work with a variety of prop controllers. Brian Thanks Brian, I tried googling it but didn't get any hits of substance. James The manufacturer's website is: http://www.alispor...

Ah, come on -- we know that's really for your make-up.

(But that's a good list -- the Israeli bandage was new to me, so thanks for that.)

Re: Compass Repair Kits

I went to blag some fluid from the maintenance place on our airfield. The ever-helpful mechanic gave me a bottle labelled "Compass Fluid", gave me a look, and said "It's Jet A1".

Re: LAA approved designs

The list of LAA-approved designs is here: http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co.uk/pdf/Engineering/Website%20Accepted%20Aircraft%20List.pdf But don't know how many of these were "not previously approved by other airworthiness authorities"... (I'm sure this list used to be split into single- and two...

Ideally fast build. Obviously you have Vans (RV-14) and Zenair (CH635).

But is that it?
What about the Sonex?

Congratulations, Dirk! Perhaps if you sent a photo and a little write-up to Brian he could find space in the magazine for it.
