Low-voltage warning unit

The low-voltage warning light on our motorglider isn't working. It seems to be driven by a mysterious orange box, with a model number, a serial number...but no maker's name. Has anyone seen similar? Got any ideas how to test it? (The bulb seems to be good.) P1004501 (Medium).JPG P1004503 (Medium).JPG

Re: Builders liability

I've heard of this happening in the US, but not over here. Definitely an unhealthy trend.

Could he slightly disassemble the aircraft (e.g. take the wings and tailplane off), then sell it to you as a kit, thereby transferring any builder's liability to you?

Re: Flying in Germany and Austria with permit aircraft

The second page you posted refers to non-EU aircraft (Art. 3) -- that's us, presumably.* The introductory paragraph refers to an application being made, and that permission "might" be given provided (sub-para b) pilot holds appropriate licences and type ratings in accordance with the ICAO standards ...

Just logged on and noticed those discussing Italy may not have seen AIC A1/20 https://www.dropbox.com/s/ez222rtwyu3sufj/Photo%2007-06-2018%2C%2008%2002%2004.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/x8s5hmtwy8jqdgc/Photo%2007-06-2018%2C%2008%2002%2034.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/vu2iq69a3pi03lt/Pho...

I don't know where you are, so what counts as local, but this mast-maker near Oxford can get suitable spruce: http://www.collars.co.uk/

Thanks, Ian. I think I've found one on eBay for a third of that, but useful to know as a fallback option!

Re: Electrical connector for T&S

Hi Ian, your photo prompted me to look closer if there was anything stamped on the socket itself -- concealed under a rubber gasket, which I hadn't looked beneath before, was "Amphenol" and "7-8262", which hopefully will get me closer to finding a suitable plug!

Re: Electrical connector for T&S

Thanks, Jim. I did have a quick web trawl, but nothing leapt out as an obvious fit. Plan B, if I can't find a connector, is to remove cover, drill small hole, fit a grommet, and solder flying leads directly onto the terminals within. (The cover comes off straightforwardly and the terminals are just ...

Electrical connector for T&S

Does anyone know what type of connector I need for this T&S? (And where I can get one from...?)

Re: Ratchets

All of the above. Plus I acquired a set of ratchet spanners with a hinged head, which are really useful. One thing to note is that the heads on some ratchets are larger than regular spanners, which can sometimes offset the accessibility advantage. I've also acquired a good set of 6-point spanners --...

Re: Compass repair

Compass fluid: I went to scrounge some from the local maintenance operation (because buying a bottle to do a single compass seemed excessive). The ever-helpful boss/mechanic handed me a large bottle labelled "Compass Fluid", looked me in the eye, and said "It's Jet A1, but don't tell anyone." And th...
