Re: revalidating a UK PPL

Further to my investigations, I have found Irv Lee has an excellent publication, one of his FAQ no.31 refers to my situation, http://www.higherplane.co.uk/faq.html
I also found a very useful chart by Dave White.

Re: revalidating a UK PPL

Donald, Many thanks, what a detailed answer. I hope it means yes. My PPL is a non FCL being an old UK license. You are either in the industry or very clever at sifting through the jargon. I sold my permit aeroplane last October thats why I have so few hours this last year. I have read here and there...

revalidating a UK PPL

I need to revalidate my UK PPL SEP, normally if doing it by experience its 12 hours in the last 12 months. I don't meet this requirement only having 8 hours SEP. I do have however 6 hours fixed wing microlight, can anyone refer me to where it says I can use these hours for my revalidation. I have sp...

Re: LeBurg ignition

Thanks Nick and Chris, I was hoping to use copper wire leads with resistor caps so I could make my own, looks like I will have to buy them ready made. I'm using the standard kit supplied by Dave Mickleburg, yes the Bi-Plane has been awhile in the making. I've completed a fuel flow check, just a few ...

LeBurg ignition

I am starting to connect up my LeBurg ignition, The first problem I've come across is sourcing the HT leads for the coilpacks. The write up says you should not use copper conductor leads, but user carbon. Where would I get the fittings for the coil and plug ends. Also would copper conductor leads wi...

Re: Help offered with aircraft recovery

Roger, Glad it turned out OK. I've been in that position myself and know what a stressful time it is.

Help offered with aircraft recovery

Here is a post a saw on the BMAA forum, not sure where to post this. A White and red Evans EV1 "Tilly 1" has landed in a field near to my home. I'm assuming he had a problem on the way back from the LAA rally. If he needs help in recovering the aircraft please forward my details; Lauriehurman at yah...

AirBike at new weight

I have installed a Rotax 447, and a wing fold mechanism, and the aeroplane is flying again. Although I can now go to 300 kgs under the new rules the aeroplane has a design limit of MAUW of 254kgs. I am currently at 234 kgs so I could fit another tank with 20 litres. I think I will enjoy flying for a...

Re: New SSDR regulation

Hi Rob, Thanks for the info. I am aware of the 390kg group of aeroplanes. As this was the old weight limit before they increased it for microlights upto 450kg currently, I thought you may not be eligible to use those rules. I hope it works out for you. I was thinking of the practical ways of calibra...

Re: New SSDR regulation

As far as I understand it, any single seat aeroplane that conforms to the criteria can be deregulated. When the ANO is updated next year all single seaters that conform to the criteria will be forced to go SSDR. The MTOW of 300kgs is declared, so if your 354kgs is made up of 90kg pilot and 10gals fu...

Re: New SSDR regulation

Well done Basil. After numerous emails to various people at the CAA, you post was the first I heard of this.
At last we have it, too late for me to go to Sywell but the exemption is exactly what we wanted and expected.

Re: New SSDR regulation

Latest date I have heard is 14th May 2014, the last sticking point is over whether permits should be allowed to carry on for existing single seaters. My view is they should drop the permits for all this category, why have a dual system, seems like there would not be any savings in bureaucracy, if an...

Re: New SSDR regulation

I've heard some positive news, it could be announced in a couple of weeks. The main parameters of the proposal won't change, 300kgs MAUW and 35kts stall. The devil is in the detail, Looks like existing single seaters will have the chance to continue with their Permits if they wish, and some form of ...

Re: New SSDR regulation

I have been waiting for the new rules for SSDR to be published (300kg MAUW), but still no news. First it was end of 2013, then it was 1st April 2014.
Maybe I missed it, but as I have a previously registered SSDR I would have thought I'd have been contacted.

waiting in hopeful anticipation.
