Electronic Conspicuity. LA article Dec 21
As promised I am opening a thread on my article on EC in and its displays in the Dec LA mag. The LAA managed to change my name to Neil, but I haven't, I am still Ian Fraser. May I kick it off by asking for view on the question I asked in the caption to pic 10. What would you do if faced with a catch...

Re: EC Where are we now - LAA mag Nov 2021
Hi Sorry for the delay in comment. The point I was making in the article was about the way ahead for products like sky demon. You say that its connected by down loading to your Dynon, but that is my point. The only reason you need 2 navigators is because you cant connect SD directly to your AP, or r...

Battery article Jun 21 LA Magazine
As promised in the mag a thread on batteries. When preparing the article I uncovered all sorts of opinion and problems so I can’t imagine the membership have nothing to say. Also one of the pictures got missed out, the installation of the lithium battery in my RV6. I can provide it if anyone is inte...

"Electronic Conspicuity, where are we" article in Nov 20 mag
Hi all In the article in the Nov edition of LA I raise a couple of points that I believe merit discusion. First, the ADSB integrity standard (SIL / SDA) that will be required for a mandatory EC area. I suggested that it should be SIL 1 but, without significant preasure from us, NATS / CAA may well f...

Re: ADSB out
It apeared in a couple of CAA strategy and policy papers about a year or so ago. Part of airspace modernisation. They forecast mandatory EC in choke points by 2023. It will be ADSB. See my article in LAA mag early this year 2024 comes from CAP1711 but there are a variety of mentions and dates in sev...

Re: National Licensing and Medical Exemptions expire on Wednesday 8 April 2020
While I understand the medical thing, The notice seems to ban UK PPLs too regardless of the medical. I am surprised that my UK PPL with a class 2 medical will not be vald to fly a G registered certified aircraft in the UK. What has that got to do with EASA? I thought it was a UK PPL was a ICAO stand...

Share the Air, Sense all others, be seen by all others.
Good Morning As promised, I have opened a topic on the article "Taking stock of EC" in the Feb 20 LA mag. Unfortunately, it was the subject of a bit of "political correction" editing and during that one of its key points was overlooked. For completeness this is the paragraph that inadvertently got a...

Heads up, Article on Feb 20 mag on ANR headsets
Hi all As promised, I have opened a topic to discuss points you might like to make about the headset article (Heads up) in the February LA mag. I have already had direct feedback on my methodology and its accuracy but, what was not in the article was that both I and others conducted the test several...

Re: Instruments article feedback
The point I started with really relates to the potential consequences of the CAA’s latest plans for electronic conspicuity. If EC is mandated (as they say it will be), we will all be transmitting pressure altitude via either transponders or beacons. Under current regulations, any encoders (including...

Instruments article feedback
Hi all I have opened this topic for any feedback on instruments (electronic or steam) from my recent articles in the LA magazine. Of particular interest is calibration. With the potential advent of mandatory electronic conspicuity (CAP1777) and the new regulations on height clearance in controlled a...

Re: Out of the box
Ian replies: The subject matter covered by my “out of the box” article is very complex and to do it full justice would require the whole magazine, but editors being what they are didn’t allow me that much. I did a lot of thinking preparing this article (and the rest of the series) and hope that what...

Hi Keith Thanks for your comments. My comment about P3i performance was gleaned from a discussion with 5 owners several of whom fly together. When asked, “did you see one another” they said no. Maybe they didn’t look hard enough but, its just an observation on my part. EC is about seeing and being s...
