Re: D-Motor
Agree with a lot of your points though one electronic ign and one magneto gives the best of both worlds and many modern diesels (ie like the Weslake) seem to use HP common rail injection with an ECU and electric solenoids on the injectors so they are not always so immune from risk of electrical fail...

Re: Customs Airfields in France
Ref Remember, you also need to leave from a designated customs airfield for your return flight to UK. I don't doubt this is so, having had to comply with this recently but does anyone know where this is written down in law. After all we can leave the UK without leaving from a Customs attended airpor...

Re: Dipole antenna - positioning in fuselage
Yes - I read up about the balun and short lengths of co-ax etc but opted for the torroids on grounds of simplicity and limited space. I also built a Mode S transponder dipole using a bit of etched printed circuit board and that works amazingly too, again using torroids. Never had any issue with ATC ...

Re: Dipole antenna - positioning in fuselage
Hi Ian - if it helps, you could do worse than something similar to our setup. Remember both elements of the dipole don't have to be vertical. We have installed a home made comms antenna in our winglet (which is only approx 24" high) at the end of the wing. This setup was exactly as recommended by Ru...

Re: Megajolt Ignition
Hi Gary Yes Rob is correct - the Megajolt and the Leburg use identical Ford coil packs. The missing tooth of the ring needs to align with the relevant VRS at 90 deg before relevant TDC - this gives the software about 30 - 40 degrees to decide (based on the current rpm and MP) when to fire the releva...

Re: Aldon Amethyst ignition system
Glad it was of interest.
It initially sounds complicated but it isn't really.
Ok - I'll draft something up & get onto Brian - I was vaguely thinking about doing an update so thanks for the prompt

Re: Aldon Amethyst ignition system
Great spot. That vacuum enabled version looks really interesting and is an alternative to the Megajolt system I wrote about in the LAA mag a while back (which is now fully LAA approved as a prototype MOD and has been flawless to date & improving economy). Software looks good for setting rpm & vac ma...

Re: CAA announce 8.33 Hand Held Radios are Legal
Yes Donald but.............. most EU States allow UK PtF a/c to fly in their airspace without further approval because most reciprocate blanket approval and allow free movement of PtF types .......with one bizarre exception of Belgium, who want specific one off by a/c authorisation---and a fee ........

Re: Licences and Medicals
Thanks Jon Despite your valiant efforts I'm beginning to lose the will to live on all this stuff. Could anyone have made this more complicated if they had tried! European harmonisation! ? :( :o  :? One day someone will get prosecuted for a breach of one or other of this lot and it will be int...

Re: Group rules - necessity for equal shares?
Ref last para Larger than 20 person groups must be Public Transport (ie not Private) CofA aircraft - ie definitely not a Permit aircraft - unless perhaps special permission is given by CAA - if that is somewhere (embedded deep in the ANO) in their gift?? Too early in the morning and too late in my l...

Have a look at CAP393
http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP393.pdf
Para 269
Section 1 part 34 page 4
You need a GPS to navigate the ANO.
