Nigel, I have been watching your recent posts on this forum with interest. You seem to have a negative attitude towards the LAA. Why don't you get along to a local strut and talk to some members. You will get answers to most of the LAA questions from people who know and use the system. They will als...

Starting a 1779 VW with a Zenith Stromberg Carb.
I have almost finished rebuilding my Luton Minor and rolled it out side today to try running the engine for the first time in 4 years. The engine is a VW fitted with a Zenith stromberg CD150 carb. When last run it had a pair of Lucas magnetos but these have been replaced with Leberg electronic ignit...

Man Has to Knock Down Wall to Get Plane Out of His House
http://gizmodo.com/5806206/man-has-to-knock-down-wall-to-get-plane-out-of-his-house I like the idear of the glass floor/ceiling. Think I might suggest to my other half that a glass wall to the workshop would be a good thing so that she can better see where most of the monthly disposable income is go...

Quote Tom Sheppard "This is an issue that needs an immediate and wide ranging publicity campaign" I would be very careful if trying to go down this route. Recently I was at BBQ with a number of non flying people. You know the type of event, at one of my wife's friends home where all the women know e...

Headset suitable for vintage style open cockpit.
I am looking for a set up for open cockpit flying. I currently have a David Clark headset and could buy one of the leather helmets to suit this. Alternatively I have a RAF cloth helmet from the 50's that I could add some more up to date parts to use. Neither of which is quite what I am looking for. ...

I was aware that this event was planned on an ordinary day not associated with a repatriation when I posted my original post. I do not approve of this fly past and I hope it does not take place. Just my opinion which we are all entitled to. If I read the BMAA web site correctly, this is not a charit...

Wootton Bassett flypast
I have just seen on the LAA home page that a proposed Microlight flypast is being planned for Wootton Bassett. Whilst I applaud the sentiment behind this and appreciate any effort to show support to our armed forces is a flypast the best way of doing this? Whilst I again appreciate the respect that ...

Re: Airframe Welding - Sonerai II LS
When I came to make the new undercarige for my current project I made a fitted all the parts. Tack welded and jigged where neccessary and then took the assemblies to an approved welder to complete. In this way I still did most of the work myself, and the cost and effort of getting approved would hav...

How did you spend your Bank Holiday?
I spent my Bank holiday Monday sitting in the front room rib stitching control surfaces, whilst half watching television. James Stewart in the Charles Lindberg story was my inspiration in particular the scenes where they showed building his plane and the fabric being applied. very appropriate. Made ...

Neil, Well done on the PPL. :D :D For my Luton Minor rebuild I have used grease proof paper. I get this in rolls from the draw next to the cooker in the kitchen. I have been told by my wife that all supermarkets stock this in the bakery section but I will take her word for this as I try to keep my k...
