Re: 'Airdrome Aeroplanes' (USA)
Nigel, don't give up on the idea of building an Airdrome Aeroplanes replica. I built an Eindecker from a kit supplied through GSAL a few years ago and still fly it regularly with well over 500 flights to date. It has to be about the cheapest way to fly. I built mine to the old SSDR standard which se...

Re: Lithiam or Shorai or liFeP04
Howard,
I managed to kill my first Shorai battery by discharging it too much. The second one though has given me excellent service and I must have had over 250 engine starts out of it. It is charged by the alternator on the Hirth F23 engine. I bought it from Carrot Cycles.

Re: Lithiam Iron batteries
I have used a Shorai Lithium iron battery for starting my 50hp Hirth engine on my Eindecker replica for around 300 starts now. It is charged by the engine alternator. The battery weighs less than 500 grams!
Note that there is a big difference between lithium iron and lithium ion.

Re: SSDR rules
I had no trouble getting insurance for my SSDR Eindecker replica, although admittedly not self designed it is self modified! In fact it costs me nothing as it is added on to the existing insurance for my other aircraft.

Leburg Ignition System
The Leburg system is such a good system that it must not be allowed to fail due to lack of repair facilities. I have one fitted to my Flitzer and it is excellent. If product liability is what is stopping the units being repaired would it be possible for the LAA insurance to cover the liability issue?

I had a reply from the CAA to my request to operate in the Restricted Zone without a transponder. I am close to the southern boundary. Mike, Under the regulations for the Restricted Zone, that is correct. However, depending on the position of your strip, there may be a possibility of an exemption. C...

Eindecker
Dave, current favourite is the Hirth F23 lightweight, but I've only just started the rudder so that decision is still some way off.

VW propeller
I'm repairing a Flitzer and I need a prop for it. 62" x 31" would be perfect. Anybody got a spare one lying around? Mike Clark
