Re: Rotax running during lockdown
Is it law? The Gov.UK website says its guidance. I don't know. Anyway look at the next line down,"Operate the engine until the temperatures have stabilized for a period of 5 min (engine oil temperature between 50 to 70 °C (122 to 160 °F)." Looks like you could argue that to get the engine up to temp...

Re: LAA COVID ADVICE. 11th May 2020
I think the LAA has done a good job in representing our interests with the various agencies during these difficult times. We will get back to flying within the near future I'm sure. Until that time just sit tight. Look on the Brightside. You ain't dead due to this poxy virus. Brian, can you ask your...

Re: Garmin Magnetometer Install - twisted pair?
Peter, On most commercial aircraft I have dealt with the magnetometer is mounted near the wing tip but not right at the tip. One of the reasons for mounting it near the wing tip is to keep it as far away as possible from any stray RF or induced voltages. The fact that you may using shielded twisted ...

Phil,
Your hoses are supposed to be inspected at every permit renewal inspection by your inspector. There is a MPD, MPD 1998-019 R1. Its mandatory.

Re: Duralac/JC5A and Cromate confusion.
Didn't even know they still did Duralac!! Wasn't is banned. The last time I used Duralac was in 1988 when I was an apprentice working on the B29 at Duxford. Haven't used JC5A in years. Think since I stopped working on BAe 146's. All horrible stuff. If I remember correctly Duralac dry's out after tim...

Re: Liberty XL2 IOF-240 Engineer
As far as I am aware the Liberty is a certified C of A aircraft. It bears a resemblance to a Europa. Pete I suggest you contact your nearest aircraft maintenance company or licensed aircraft engineer. If it is on the N reg. suggest you find an A&P mechanic. Neither should be to hard to find. If I wa...

Re: Arplast PV 50
John I think you'll find that most of the Arplast props fitted to microlights are fixed pitch. So not sure what help P&M will be to you. Last year I had to fix a couple of problems on my PV 50 fitted to my Europa. Most of the parts are commercially available. Not of the hardware is. I needed to repl...

Re: Avio lights
No real update. The LAA said that if my inspector was happy with the flash rate then that was ok!! As I'm the inspector, I'm very happy with it.
I did ask for some guidance material from the LAA on lights. But they do not have any. However the BMAA do https://www.bmaa.org/files/til_013_strobes.pdf

Re: Avio lights
Berian, I'm fitting these to my Europa at the moment. When I submitted my mod paperwork with the technical information from Avio. The LAA pointed out that the flash rate quoted was to high. The design specs the LAA use as a basis for approving strobe lights quotes a maximum of 100 flashes a min. Avi...

I have a fair bit of experience on Jabiru engines. But when I need some info I've given Kev a ring and he has been most helpful. He is also good for spares.

Re: Flying after permit/annual expiry
You would probably require a written authorisation from the LAA for a one off flight. They may require that any MPD's that are due be done before the flight.

Re: Factory built SportCruiser PS28 maintenance
You will have to find a licensed aircraft engineer the PS28. They might be happy for you to do the work on it. Worth asking. Any body can work on their aircraft not matter if its C of A, LAA permit or EASA permit. You just have to find someone happy to sign off the work once the work has been comple...

Re: McCauley Prop Bolt Length
Richard, Prop bolts are not standard AN bolts. The thread portion on a prop bolt is longer than on a standard bolt. They should protrude through the back of threaded inserts. If they don't they are not engaging correctly. If they don't engage correctly they are not transferring the load correctly. I...
