Re: CAP1302 Transfer of non-Part 21 aircraft from Certificate of Airworthiness to Permit to Fly

I'd like to know how much extra work this is going to be for an overworked LAA engineering department. Also how taking on even more aircraft is going to benefit existing LAA members? It seems that the LAA take on more and more aircraft. But without the resources to keep up with the existing demand. ...

Re: Permit Renewals Sign Off

It isnt a matter of the LAA or the BMAA trusting their inspectors. It's what the CAA allow the LAA or BMAA do under their approvals and the CAA feel comfortable letting either organisation do. You have to remember that a lot of LAA and BMAA inspectors are amateurs. While your licensed aircraft engin...

Re: Permit Renewals Sign Off

Not really sure what you mean by "BMAA, CAA & BGA by giving the Inspector’s the responsibility of signing off the Permit to Fly renewals at the Permit Inspection". When I carry out a permit renewal inspection on a BMAA microlight I dont sign off the permit to fly renewal any more than I do when I do...

Re: Shortage of inspectors?

Paul,
Not sure where you are. But ever since I became a LAA and BMAA inspector i have not really received many enquires about my services. Doesn't really bother me that much to be honest.

Re: Components/parts

I got a reply last week "I believe the CAA Safety Notice is produced not just with LAA Permit to Fly aircraft in mind but ‘Permit to Fly aircraft’ in general, which includes CAA Permits to Fly". Carry on as usual!!

Still no reply. I have chased this up a couple of times now. I got a reply back from the BMAA the day after contacting them.

Re: Components/parts

I have just emailed engineering for their comments and clarification. But having just read the SN it certainly looks as it does apply to LAA type aircraft. Which would put as spanner in the works to say the least.

Will the LAA membership see any return on its investment. The engineering teams time is not free after all. As Rob says above, what's the relevance to the membership.

Re: Rotax running during lockdown

Is it law? The Gov.UK website says its guidance. I don't know. Anyway look at the next line down,"Operate the engine until the temperatures have stabilized for a period of 5 min (engine oil temperature between 50 to 70 °C (122 to 160 °F)." Looks like you could argue that to get the engine up to temp...

Re: LAA COVID ADVICE. 11th May 2020

I think the LAA has done a good job in representing our interests with the various agencies during these difficult times. We will get back to flying within the near future I'm sure. Until that time just sit tight. Look on the Brightside. You ain't dead due to this poxy virus. Brian, can you ask your...

Re: Garmin Magnetometer Install - twisted pair?

Peter, On most commercial aircraft I have dealt with the magnetometer is mounted near the wing tip but not right at the tip. One of the reasons for mounting it near the wing tip is to keep it as far away as possible from any stray RF or induced voltages. The fact that you may using shielded twisted ...

Phil,
Your hoses are supposed to be inspected at every permit renewal inspection by your inspector. There is a MPD, MPD 1998-019 R1. Its mandatory.

Re: Duralac/JC5A and Cromate confusion.

Didn't even know they still did Duralac!! Wasn't is banned. The last time I used Duralac was in 1988 when I was an apprentice working on the B29 at Duxford. Haven't used JC5A in years. Think since I stopped working on BAe 146's. All horrible stuff. If I remember correctly Duralac dry's out after tim...

Re: Liberty XL2 IOF-240 Engineer

As far as I am aware the Liberty is a certified C of A aircraft. It bears a resemblance to a Europa. Pete I suggest you contact your nearest aircraft maintenance company or licensed aircraft engineer. If it is on the N reg. suggest you find an A&P mechanic. Neither should be to hard to find. If I wa...
