Auster on an LAA permit?

Please forgive such a novice question but can an Auster be operated on an LAA permit to fly rather than a CAA one? If so, does that change who can do maintenance on the aircraft, I.e. the owner? Could the plane be rebuilt by the owner or reengined? (With LAA approval)

Re: LAA Heritage Plans

For example the Kittiwake II design was given to the PFA by the designer Dr Kit Mitchell. Wondered if there were any others? There are many on the approved list for which information is very limited, maybe some of those?

LAA Heritage Plans

The history of the LAA interests me and how it’s changed over the years from the PFA. Moving with the times is a good thing in general but do some worthwhile things get missed or left behind? The Currie Wot, Isaacs Fury, Isaacs Spitfire etc, are all available from the LAA as Heritage plans but what ...

Kittiwake 1/11

I am looking for any information on either of the Kittiwake aircraft, I understand drawings were once available in the late 60's? I understand that the 2 seater used major components, wing, tail fin, rudder, from the single seat design and am interested in how they did this? I believe one kittiwake ...

Kittiwake 1/11

I am looking for any information on these aircraft, I understand drawings were once available in the late 60's? I believe one kittiwake is still flying but would be interested to find out what happened to the others? The Kittiwake 11 was deregistered in the 1990's, anyone know if it still exists?

Many thanks for all the input since I asked the original question. I have spoken with both Nipper Kits and Components and PFA engineering and BOTH say the Nipper CAN be homebuilt. HOWEVER, the person at PFA engineering wanted Francis to confirm that this was still correct!!! So it seems that Enginee...

PB,

Many thanks for that, you make it sound simple!! It looks like I'll be going the 1834 route with Leburg ignition. Weight will be an issue!!

Anyone know of any fuel injection or inverted oil systems ??

Fully support Brian and his efforts with the Mag and the LAA in general!! On the old forum there was a section for talking to Graham Newby that was infrequently, but well used. Maybe we need that facility for all the EC members? If they post in that medium we'd know it was 'Official' and if elsewher...

Talking of new engines, I was expecting someone to mention the 'J' word rather than messing around with VW's? Cost however is a big factor in engine choice and as most single seaters sell for around £6000, it's hard to justify a £9000 engine such as a rotax 912!!?? Even some two seaters sell for lit...

Well a new engine will need a new mount, that mount has to be shown to be upto taking the various loads as outlined in CS-VLA as a minimum. (Gust Loads normally the most severe case). You would also have to show the installation met the design code and check engine cooling, oil cooling and redesign ...

Mike, It's exactly because I don't want to reinvent the wheel that I started this thread. However the 2 types I'm interested in are both cleared to use the VW and parts (cowlings, mounts ets) are readily available. A new engine needs to have LAA input and by definition it's not just the engine that ...

So for an 1800 VW the view is a Stromberg 150 Carb and Leburg Ignition? For those of us with limited skill and equipment, does the Leburg system come ready to fit or if not what's involved? Seem to remember an ignition system described in PF a while ago?? or was that a diferent system? Anyone know w...
