Magnetic personality
I have noticed just how much the compass swings when an Ipad or tablet is put on or near the panel for any program or GPS etc there is a HUGE deviation and that could seriously affect any and every flight you do, it is probably the speaker magnets but there might be others in there as well. Be warne...

Re: Jodel D120 Fuel Tank Contents Sender Unit Removal
Had exactly the same problem the arm is long and tortuous making it almost impossible. In the end I used a dipper and worked out the hourly usage ( generous ) and did it that way, This was along time ago and the electricla capacitance one were unheard of in simple aircraft. There are loads of them n...

Re: Why do we need approved inspectors?
If that is the case why do so many now charge up to £200 to come over and fill out paperwork or sign logbooks, they treat it as a business even though not even qualified just authorised, I resent training as a CAA engineer and having to fork out to a local person who just happens to be an inspector ...

Re: Medical self-declaration
So what is the restriction on carrying a passenger now , if you need a Class 2 commercial vehicle level of exam what is it now on the self declaration? Is it for solo only and the doctors still needs to countersign for carrying others?

Mike Fortune is the only one I know of with a classic Cherry that he built from scratch. There is one other with a rotax engine but I cannot remember his name now.

Before going too far just check the aerial contacts are good power for transmit is quite high, receiving is not, it might just be connector not touching the core properly.

Re: Classify laser devices as an offensive weapon
In this country there is always the tendency for the regulation to be made gold plated covers all and all the t's crossed i's dotted and then the unintended consequences arrive. It is a criminal offence to shine it at anybody , car driver , pedestrian, aircraft IF it can cause injury. Then it should ...

Re: Classify laser devices as an offensive weapon
To possess one is the same as actually having one to use for that purpose, same as a shotgun you have the offence of having one without a licence not mowing down little old ladies with one. The authorities always go for the potential to use one by possession. I use lasers for construction uses and I...

Re: Classify laser devices as an offensive weapon
I personally cannot see the actual danger of these laser pointer type instruments I have used lasers for engineering work and whilst unpleasant they did not blind me. Lasers used for military use would be a lot more dangerous but they are not available to the morons in the street who would do these ...

Re: hercules props
What are the level flight attainments of this prop as it seems to be fantastic to obtain so much speed at those rpm, I could not get anything like that on mine 90 knots is about all I could get in level flight at 2450rpm, I feel I must have a drag parachute deployed to lose out so much performance w...

Re: SIRS Compass Correction Key
Simple, get a bit of brazing rod about 6" and of a suitable diameter and hammer the end flat the file it to fit the screw head. bend a bit the other end and thats a tool you use once or twice and cost little.

Re: Insurance recommendations?
With the bad weather and various other reasons I find that it cost £75 per hour to insure a Jodel, that is horrendous and when I went to visicover the premium was half that. Trouble is the fixed cost are overtaking the usage making it not worth doing anymore. The fixed costs are totally overwhelming...

Made another set of transparencies from PETG as this is more resistant than polycarbonate and stronger than perspex. Kept the master from the original screen so getting used to cutting them on a bandsaw.

Re: Petrol damage to screens
I have remade the screen with PETG but I did try a sample with fuel and when it is under tension ie bent it does craze like the others. But hey ho worth a try. Silly place for a tank filler though, even the fumes get it on the screen. I will do away with the gauge rod and do it by calculation for fu...

That is better. Why did they not do that to start with, much better public relations.
