Not wishing to tempt fate but there seem to be many glider repairers who have made it a ripe old age and with many years of using epoxy resins on a regular basis with no reported problems. It would seem to be largely amatuer users that suffer, any ideas why? (Genuine question, I am concerned that as...

Graeme, With regard to time taken, I wanted a near Sailplane type of finish. Time spent on prep is proportional to quality of finish - you could probably apply a quick primer coat, not cut it back and finish with a topcoat straight over it in quite a bit less time than suggested but that would not p...

The paint didn't cost £600 - but there is lots more to consider than just paint. Decent 2K Paint will be about half to 2/3rds of that cost, the rest being fillers, abrasives, primers, hardener, thinners, gunwash, masking materials, etc. etc. the list goes on.... If you are using a commercial painter...

If it is of any interest, I painted my own Twister (and do this sort of work for a living) - it took about 150hrs labour and in region of £600 plus VAT for materials (dont know exactly as I keep loads of consumable in stock which were not strictly booked out to the job) - and that was just to prime ...

Brian.
Ah, but that is the beauty of a planner. Mine lives next to the kettle in the workshop - updading forthcoming events each month whilst perusing the latest mag and enjoying a cuppa is one of the jobs that is rarely missed (unless some rascal has cut the string securing the pen ... again).

Brian, Got my mag early this week thanks. I had noted that wall planner printing problems would mean that it had been delayed and would be in this month's mag. I think it is a good idea to send a planner out to everyone, but most of us that use them have had one up and in use for nearly 6 weeks now ...

Bioethanol production is set to increase in the New Year so I guess we are likely to see more of it in our mogas soon. http://tinyurl.com/y86qjk2 I understand that there is another similar sized plant due to come online within the next year on Humberside - I love the Ensus facts statement suggesting...

Hi Ian Part prepared as required then 2K etch coat followed by 2 k primer and a 2k acrylic(or polyurethane) for me every time. In my limited experience there are no shortcuts with finishing work. Most of the German glider manufactuers use this system on metal parts like u/c frames and it seems to be...

Dodgy pressure sender ? (I seem to recall discussion re this on Jab engine group some time ago - there seemed to be a batch that failed after xhrs ). Dodgy gauge ? (I have seen a VDO on a Rotax Falke show a similar type of failure mode) All the above assumes of course that you have already done the ...

Rob, Just sold my Bose in favour of Zulus mainly because of inbuilt bluetooth and aux input facilites. In my experience both units offer excellent ANR and although I cannot speak for 757 suitability, I do find the Zulus more comfortable and if anything, a tad quieter in the Twister. HM did me an OK ...

Nice idea Andrew, I guess nothing will change the plans for this year but just a suggestion for the future, how about just having a marshaller(s) present prior to engine start and have him/them accompany the taxying aircraft to the 'airside' boundary. I would hope that could be seen as a reasonable ...

Slots - why?

When booking in at High Wycombe on the Saturday at 1130, I noticed the arrival (invoicing) log had a load of no-shows for the earlier slots - probably about 30% of the pre-noon slots had not arrived (or not yet booked in). A tad annoying as I had spent two days trying to get a slot and in the end ca...

Hi everyone, Having read Pete's note on the LAA Website front page, it would apear that some folks have gained approval for use of NPPL in France for SSEA. http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co.uk/HomePage/nppl.html Does anyone here have any positive experience with requesting approval for flight w...
