Re: Airfield Planning Permission

I secured full planning for change of use on our strip in 2013 without any problems or objections.

Please feel free to give me a call on zero seven 885460270 anytime if you fancy a chat about how we made it work here.

Re: Cowling bump

Jim, If you do make your own 'bump', it is worth using some decent epoxy resin and 2*2 twill glass cloth - once it is cured at room temp then post-cure it as per resin recomendation to reduce the risk of shrinkage due to engine heat bringing the cloth weave to the surface after you have painted your...

Re: stabilizing or reinforcing a grass strip

Paul, We used Perfo matting on hard worn areas of our strip to excellent effect. We confined our reinforcement activity to a metre wide around the hangar concrete apron and under the farm track that crosses our runway where we regularly have to take 25 tonne gross wt vehicles over to the fields beyo...

I have known of breather pipes freezing up in weather like this - a mate blew out a crankshaft seal last year on his Pitts. Of course all had defrosted and was aparently OK in the hangar afterwards - that is, except for a small plug of icy emulsion goop under the outlet of the breather tube.... Hope...

Hi, Is it a fine finned head model and where are your senders located? My fine finned 2200A with sender rings between compression washer and plugs reaches nearly upper limits if I am held before t/o for any length of time but rapidly drops back towards the bottom of the green arc in flight and then ...

John, Hope you do not mind me commenting re Langar. They are a very busy para dropping centre and operate with several aircraft on busy days (3 Caravans working flat out last time I was there) and whilst you are quite right that they are not able to accept light aircraft to be based there, I have al...

We have recently bought an excellent D120 for well inside for your budget figure. As Barry says above, with a clear approach and departure route, 300m is about the minimum I would accept. Although with light fuel /passenger loading and short dry grass we are off well before 300m, it does obviously t...
