Re: Dynavibe GX3 for use by LAA members.

One of the type-owner clubs purchased the PB-1 for use by its members. Then its Board decided that this was "too dangerous" for members to use (although presumably accepting as part of its raison-d'etre that the members were safe enough to build and operate aeroplanes). Like a good camera (or sprayg...

Aircraft rating - certificate of test/check or experience

My PPL(A) comes with the above named form, which is used to record sign-offs of revals. etc. My form is now full with no spaces for any further entries and I cannot find a comparable form on the CAA website. The existing form has proforma reference: "FCL 150CJAR 231298" Anyone know where to find a n...

Re: Rotax 912 SMD Ignition Module Failures

I thought mine were failing (kickback/difficulty starting when temps <10C, supposed to be indicative of weakening capacitors). But a change of starting technique (i.e. leaving out the initial ignition-off churn to get an oil pressure indication) resolved the matter. Don't the polarised capacitors ta...

Re: Spray systems

A good spray gun is like a good camera; I wish I had the skill to use either really well! Poor gun technique is rampant on TV car-makeover programmes, so don't copy them (but their 2K paints can be forgiving of a multitude of sins). ICI (paints) used to publish a very good book on technique. Duncan ...

Re: Electric flying

I think I'd like an in-flight battery fire slightly less than an in-flight fuel (petrol) fire!

Mount the Skyecho on the top of the fin (ask LAA to approve in accordance with TL3.24*). Turn on/off during preflight/postflight inspection.

Re: Electronic Conspicuity. LA article Dec 21

Looking at range and direction for each of the flights of 403F31 shows something different on each, implying either that transmit azimuth and performance is variable day to day, or that receiver positions during the flight are not optimal. Again, I think this is at least partly a function of the rel...

Re: Electronic Conspicuity. LA article Dec 21

Regarding turning left (to mitigate traffic approaching from behind), I've had bizjet traffic (probably out of Oxford) over the top of the Brize Zone overtake me on the left (and slightly above); I'm betting they didn't see me and is the main reason I fitted EC (Skyecho). An older Zaon XRX mode-C de...

Re: SkyDemon and SE2 running with a Samsung smartphone

I don't have your 'red dot' issue with SE2 running with a Galaxy S6 'phone. Obviously the 'phone needs to be set up to ignore powersaving functions that shut things down. However, I did have an earlier problem with the Wifi dropping out (on SE2, not the 'phone) which is now resolved (by SE2 firmware...

Re: Airspace Aware ( for Android )

EVFR Basic is affectively an Aware app for a mobile phone. It's free, as are the airspace updates that go with it.
A paid-for upgrade is possible, which offers more navigational features.

Re: Problems with SkyEcho 2

I resolved that issue by sending the unit back under warranty.
I'm on my third unit now, which seems to have fixed that (and other) problems, although the latest unit doesn't seem as strong in transmit, if Vector is to be believed.
