Re: Electric?

Hopefully there will be a breakthrough in electric powerplants in the not too distant future, with both the automotive and aviation industries currently working on them. Battery technology seems to be the limiting factor at the moment. If an alternative approach to generating/storing electricity co...

Its unnecessary to employe any subterfuge most of us tend fill up at the same station, I buy fuel in more than a 'can in the boot run a lawn mower quantity' at three petrol stations near me and I ran into the problem described. It was simple to resolve I wrote to the three local stations notifying t...

I agree with Barry, and would underscore how important it is to promote aviation to youngsters. I was lucky, while still at school I answered an advert for a part time job " "experience of building model aircraft an advantage" to find myself building hang gliders and subsequently the opportunity to ...

I accept most of the points raised by the various posts but wonder if we may be looking at this issue from the wrong perspective. If we accept that the LAA is not in a position to afford the insurance or that it places to high a burden on a small organisation and as has been pointed out many of the ...

I have no idea what the requirements are in terms of weight and power but this may be of interest I recently replaced a Honda engine on my digger with a Loncin clone. I paid £216 inc vat and delivery it was an exact fit and arrived full of oil. All I had to do was bolt it in place and put some petro...

Hi Stuart You raise an interesting point, I have read about a case where the applicant failed to answer the 'use' question in any detail and failed to get a certificate at a later appeal, I think it was escalated to a national level appeal procedure, he was turned down again for the same reason...no...

Hi Mike Did you apply for a certificate of lawfulness either before or after you built, my understanding is that there is no legal requirement to do so, provided what you build is within the rules. My understanding is also that the advantage of getting a certificate of lawfulness is that it makes it...

To add to my previous post I do also have a concern that if no one has made a application for an outbuilding to build an aircraft I will therefore be the first and what I do could impact on other LAA and for that mater BMAA members making similar applications in the future. I think I might ring the ...

Hi Thanks for the responses, you did read me correctly the workshop is almost 3 times the footprint of the house at 172sqm. The internal area is around 150 sqm. After partitioning of an area for equipping as a woodwork shop, wing assembly and other benches it only just leaves enough area to be able ...

Workshop planning and Permitted Development

I'm about to make an application to the planning authority for a certificate of lawfulness for a 172sq meter workshop in my garden. Its almost 3 times the footprint of my house as such while it is within the 50% area, height and other rules I can imagine the planners are going to have a double take ...

Just a curiosity question.

I've taken an implication (possibly wrongly) from John Deans post that the SDR is a value (currently 98p) that is changed or set by 'someone' If so who are they?
