Re: T6 Ali sheet
T6 is a temper not a grade of aluminium alloy. Actually the T3 temper is used commonly for aircraft panels which is a different aging process but still a high strength. Vans aircraft typically use 2024T3 grade sheets for their pre-punched panels. As that's an American grade specification it's not co...

Re: Painting Oratex
Vinyl works very well for stripes and decals over Oratex.
There are plenty of places that will do the design and cutting and supply on a carrier tape.
I got some off the shelf ones from a custom car supplier which worked very well.

Re: Molex crimp pin
Hi Tony, I thought the Trig units used Dsub connectors, not Molex. Anyway, I have the crimp tools and pins for both and an assortment of pin extractors. I'd rather not mail them, but can make them available to borrow from home (S.Warwickshire) or airfield (Enstone). PM me if that works for you. Mark

Re: Compass repair
I've dismantled and repaired one that had a swollen diaphragm. Fairly straightforward and you can get the fluid and gaskets etc from LAS.
It should then be possible to remove and clean the compass markings. A lile care is needed to avoid an air bubble when reassembling.

Re: recovering a fuselage with Oratex
I covered my Carbon Cub as you describe. 3 blankets; bottom first wrapped round the lower longerons and both sides overlapping onto the belly. That requires some stretching and shrinking as you pull the fabric over the top stringer to tail fin junction. Finishing with a 2" wide tape covering the exp...

Re: OFCOM Change Of Licence Requirement
I had the same email. Nothing to worry about as far as I can see. My transponder is also about 200W, but only draws 1/3 A, so 4W of power consumption. That's for transmitter, receiver and display; so the radiated EMF must be less than 4W average. If there were any risk of microwaving your bodily org...

Re: The perfect Aeroplane......
In the homebuilt list that Ian mentions, half of them are biplanes so don't meet your criteria. That leaves RV-4, 6,7, 8 (and now 14) plus the Falco, CR100 and Sirocco. Those last three are very few in number. The RV4 and 6 are lighter that the 7 and 8 so better suited to shorter runways although th...

Re: Use of Stainless Steel AN bolts in place of CAD plated AN bolts
With Titanium/stainless the stainless will become the galvanic anode and subject to corrosion, the Titanium will be the cathode and not at risk, so you would still need a galvanic barrier.
I believe that they both meet the strength requirement of AN bolts, so that should not be an issue.

Re: Use of Stainless Steel AN bolts in place of CAD plated AN bolts
Stainless bolts are more prone to galvanic corrosion in contact with aluminium than Cadmium plated ones.
The bolts won't corrode but the adjoining metalwork is at risk unless a suitable galvanic barrier is used.

Give LAS a call. They may have off cuts.
They'll also supply items from the Aircraft Spruce catalogue.
