Re: Plans for winter?

Great thread and welcome tonic. Engine baffles for me - old ones are very old. Also fitting original style window latch and I must do something about the tyres that have toe in - oh and also I need to look at that possible exhaust crack - and if there is time I really ought to replace the fuel hose....

Re: The Importance of Voting at OUR AGM .

To what extent should the award of an award be subject to a motion at the AGM ? An award is made by the LAA Awards Group. At the time, given the information they had, they made a considered decision. I don't doubt with the best of intentions ( given a long track record of previous decisions ). Furth...

Re: The Importance of Voting at OUR AGM .

I do wonder if this hasn't moved beyond the award of an award. Have we now reached a point where, in their own, acknowledged, and repeated words, an individual has actively attempted to bring the reputation of the LAA into disrepute. In such cases are there sanctions ?

Re: Brize and Oxford ACP

Actually perhaps the first step is if all of us and our organisations refused to use the term Open or Class G airspace anymore, in any meeting or publication we insisted on using Common Airspace. If our press only ever referred to it as Common Airspace. If the various organisations changed all their...

Re: Brize and Oxford ACP

I am not sure. Normally one does this sort of thing by mass trespass but I am not sure that's really an appropriate thing with aeroplanes  I wonder if we need to work on the Parliamentarians and get them to see things in this way and then remind the regulator that it has a role ( like all pla...

Re: Brize and Oxford ACP

I have been thinking why I have such a strong reaction to the recent spate of airspace proposals; particularly our own local grab at Leeds. The trouble is with the term “Open”. It’s the wrong name for class G airspace. It should be called Common Airspace, as in Common Land. Open implies empty, unuse...

Three Continental C85 Cylinders need a good home.

After having my No 2 cylinder fail in flight we ( my inspector and I ) puller all four of my Continental C85-12F engine. With the price of new cylinders it made sense to do a complete replacement. So I am now the proud owner of 2 good ( book time since 2007 rebuild is 300 hours) condition and 1 fair...

Re: An open letter to the leadership of the LAA

There is also the small matter of the idea being promoted quite hard in some quarters that these systems somehow prevent collisions. They do not. They can only tell the pilot about aircraft in the vicinity. They do not know the intentions of the pilots of oncoming or passing traffic. They cannot con...

Re: An open letter to the leadership of the LAA

Seems to me that mandating anything like this merely panders to the "Aviation is Dangerous" tendency that would love to close down many of our airfields. By all means fit equipment that you feel will make you feel safer but don't extrapolate from a single incident that hasn't even yet been fully inv...

Re: Airfield Planning Permission

Send them your circuit diagram. Under any noise regs that they care to quote your aircraft will simply not register at normal circuit height. Therefore you do not have a zone of noise. The same would apply to visual intrusion. You may also ask them to quantify both their requirements for noise and v...

Thanks Ian - I always thought of it as intercom squelch rather than gain / sensitivity. Good stuff this learning.
