Re: Adhesive for laminating spruce "I" struts

Aircraft Spruce (via LAS) have several epoxies - might find a good one there.

Re: Mylar, Oratex, X-lam, Diatex, Poly fibre, Seconite aaaaagh

Ceconite and Poly Fibre fabric are one and the same product off the same loom with different stamps on them. I, a first time restorer, used Ceconite fabric and Poly fibre thereafter following the 'idiot proof' Manual for Poly Fibre - with excellent results. One big advantage of PF is it does not bur...

Will it work with Piper 'Hydrosorb' units? - not all of them will.

Re: Spraying my aircraft

I invested in one of these - simple to use and set up (Poly Fiber paints) https://www.axminstertools.com/fuji-semi-pro2-hvlp-spray-system-501285 Worth every penny for a professional finish to what, after all, has been a labour of love. 'Simple Green'

No wax in it so good for matt finishes

Bugs and oil just slide off with no effort - brilliant stuff.

Re: Duralac/JC5A and Cromate confusion.

I've heard it said that if JC5A is used where skins overlap there will be a problem with achieving a good paint finish as the 'goo' will creep out and the paint will lift at the skin joints. Apparently some paint shops may reject a job where it has been used - possibly worth thinking about.

Degaussing/demagnetizing

I am getting close to finishing my rebuild project and am now clearing up the smaller items. However the mag compass is 'Stuck on 100*' regardless of the aircraft heading although when removed it is fine. The bracket in which it is mounted is clamped to the main spar carry through tube, and was for ...
