Southern Ireland has been using hectopascal (hPa) for as long as I can remember. Nothing changes, just the name.

All the Fly-in's and events scheduled to happen at Letterkenny flying club for 2010 are cancelled. There will be no charity event for the Donegal Hospice over St.Patrick's day as planned, neither will there be our annual fly-in that was scheduled for June. I do not know if other clubs/airfields will...

Jonkil, Just out of curiosity how do you manage with the British Special Branch, Customs etc. or is the fact that you are living in Ireland (Eire)that you do not have these restrictions to trouble you? Suppose it could be fun running the border considering the line it takes N/S, E/W No problem at a...

Hi Welshman, I have an LAA inspector who permits my plane. I live right on the FIR boundary and fly on the UK NPPL(M) therefore I need a UK regd plane to fly in Northern Ireland/Scotland/UK e.t.c to adhere to the stipulations of the NPPL. Believe me, this country needs every penny it can get, We're ...

NPPL Licences & Visiting Southern Ireland

Visitors to the Republic of Ireland flying on the UK NPPL(M) licences are required by the IAA to "validate" the licence. You are required to have a JAR class 2 medical, a Radio telegraphy licence 50 hours as pilot in command plus you need to send copies of your licence/logbooks/medical/RT licence an...

I concur Brian. As a regular visitor to Scotland and England from Southern Ireland via Northern Ireland I have to submit GAR reports. I have had SB turn up on more than one occasion to "check me out" when I landed. They seem to have taken a more active front in the past 18 mts or so. The GAR is quit...

Remember an instructor once saying to a tall (6 1/2 foot) student one time, " I don't think your height is your issue, you're just an awkward shape ! " I fly a C42, I am 6'-2" and don't have an issue, my mate who is 6'-6" and also flies a C42 fits comfortably in it too, maybe we are just tall, but o...

I particularly like this quote from that thread

Reading this thread, if the LAA becomes much more popular it will have to be called the Popular Flying Association.

PS. LAA member who thoroughly endorses all the previous good words.

I believe that this is an excellent move. The Association has been, on more than one occasion, slated for not keeping members up to date on the happenings behind the scenes, so to speak. This is a move in the right direction and makes the governance of our association more transparent, and an intere...

Well done to all involved in getting this done. The part of the exemption that states that all NPPL holders must perform a flight with an instructor/qualified person to one of the C.I's and have his log book signed accordingly before he/she makes the flight unaided seems a ridiculous rule. This will...

I would like the LAA to make a commitment now to a 2010 LAA national rally. Talk to the folk at Sywell and run it along the lines of this years event. Max trade stands, demonstrations, flea market but no bells and whistles that cost the earth. A national rally really promotes the LAA is a good light...
