Re: Southend Controlled Airspace
My first question is, why does Southend need more controlled airspace than Gatwick!!?? and also more than it had during the Olympics. The SFC-3500 CTA goes out 12 miles to the NE, 10.75 to the SW, whereas LGW goes 8 miles to the west, 9 to the east. The LGW airspace down to the surface is also consi...

Re: Operation of Transponders
I agree with Brian. I fitted a transponder to my RV as I thought it would make it easier to get thru certain controlled airspace and so I could go in transponder mandatory zones or certain countries Class C/D airspace where they demand a transponder to go through. I don't want to be forced to switch...

Re: Aircoupe on a Permit?
Hi Eric, of the Aircoupes at the Rally, one came from northern Sweden, probably the furthest visitor and another from Belgium, both regular visitors although the Swede more often comes in his Thorpe T-18, cant remember the third. As for comparison with the Ce 120/140, well those on a permit were luc...

Re: What has the Future Airspace Strategy done for us?
John, I hope this isnt too late! I would like to see removal of a lot of the lower level controlled airspace that is not necessary. The airway from Southampton going south over the IOW to the channel Islands, why does it need to be down to FL35 in some places (havent got a map to look at so might be...

Re: 8.33hz radios
I really do not see how EASA can justify this imposition where 8.33khz is not required anywhere else in the world, particularly in the USA where they have far more air traffic and far more controlling to be done! So why do we have the problem in Europe? One guess is because of inefficient airspace m...

Re: Flying Young Carers
I will be at Sywell that day weather permitting, as its the US Classics fly-in as well. I would be happy to fly a couple of carers in Piper Cub G-BVAF if you find me. I assume the insurance requirement is the minimum legal requirement for that aircraft, which I have. If its any more than the legal r...

New Parachute drop zone proposed just south of Otmoor
I recieved this today, it doesnt seem to contain the full proposal, but gives enough information to see that it would be a nightmare, right in the middle of the busy north-south corridor between Brize and Benson used by many GA aircraft and gliders. Please lets all make our feelings known to the CAA...

John,
the wording has appeared again at the top of page 9 in the latest LAA mag, looks like exactly the same press release as was in the Flyer newsletter.
thanks

Re: Gypsy Moth For Sale
Seems to be very highly priced too!
The aircraft was out of the air from 2004 until 2011, stored in Antwerp for a while, seems to have got a new permit in 2011. Dont think its been restored since 1986ish when it came back from the film and needed a complete re-cover and other repairs.

Re: Access through the Manchester and Liverpool CAS
It would appear there is quite a lot of airspace that could be given back. I wonder if the Liverpool airspace is still there from the original airport which had 3 runways, rather than the new single 09/27 operation. I cant really see why they need any of the area north of the M62 to the west of Burt...

Re: Bristol and Cardiff controlled airspace
As I mentioned elsewhere. Why does the controlled airspace need to be so wide?
Bristol now only had one runway 09/27, so why is the CTR sfc-6500 ft a circle? It should be a narrow rectangle either side of the runway, with straight in approaches and climbing straight out. Same with Cardiff.

Re: Proposal to Introduce Radio Mandatory Zones (RMZ)
My view is that there needs to be a strict criteria to be met before any RMZ can be established, otherwise they will be turning up everywhere. There also needs to be strict criteria for the size of the RMZ. The current criteria used for the size of class D airspace seems to be totally inappripriate,...
