Re: CD150 Stromberg carb' needle part# or profile
Hi Greg, Thanks for the photos, it looks like a very nice job you are doing. A couple of thoughts: How fuel resistant are the rubber pipes you are using? If you are using unleaded (and you should for engine longevity provided you have the correct CR.) I would suggest putting a small measured piece o...

Re: CD150 Stromberg carb' needle part# or profile
Hi Greg, The VW engine is a bit quirky about inlet manifold and exhaust design. Do you have 4 open stacks, or do you have some other ex' system. The engine fires both cylinders on the same side consecutively, and both ex' and inlet manifolds can suffer due to the pressure pulses. A picture of your s...

Thank you Gents, the chap at Burlen is away till tomorrow, so will call him then. The engine runs well at all throttle openings with no hesitation on application of sudden full throttle from idle, and is reaching about 3000 rpm at full throttle, so the current needle is ok on the ground, but I have ...

CD150 Stromberg carb' needle part# or profile
Hi Guys, I have recently fitted a "new old stock" CD150 carb' to replace the worn out previous unit which is fitted to a Tipsy Nipper. The old CD150 is of the fixed needle type with needle 6P, the later carb' the floating needle type has a B5EP needle which is a different profile. The Stromberg part...

Hi Barry/Nigel, Thanks for your input, I will stick to the recommended tightening sequence, as you say Barry, it is to ensure the push-rod tubes are compressed before the heads seat on the barrels. Once the engine has run an hour or so I will retorque to 18ft/lbs. All the best and happy landings. Neil

Hi Nigel, Thanks for the reply, no need to apologise, I talk complete gibberish at times, and I am highly qualified to do so!! Steve wrote the GPAS manual (the same one you have I venture) and it was via an email that he advised 22ft/lbs on my enquiry, why he should not have advised this amended tor...

Hi, Have you checked the float needle seat is sealing in the carb'? If the (usually brass) needle seat is not fitted with a fibre or alloy gasket washer the fuel will leak past it and give you unregulated flow, even though the needle is fully seated. Another possible cause is engine vibration making...

Hi Nigel, Thanks for the reply......wonder why the other post was deleted? I have the GPAS manual, and am familiar with the content, but the fact that the alloy cyl's will expand more than the cast iron ones is my concern. The Porsche 911 engine (of which I have built many, I used to work for a Pors...

VW head torque with aluminium cylinders
Hi, I have a set of the Aluminium Cylinders for the VW 2180cc engine, but have received various ideas on what the head torque should be with these barrels. The Soneria forum suggests some engine cases have been damaged due to the overtorqueing and additional expansion of these alloy barrels............
