Re: Cub Tour

I had the pleasure of meeting Peter a few days ago at Perth and I fixed a small problem he had with the aircraft. He seems to have had a wonderful time meandering here and there over merry England but I think he's looking forward to his Scottish legs more, following the NC500 over the top if he can....

Re: Rhodius varnish

Did you amend your original post Colin? I could swear the original content involved your Inspector insisting on it and it being difficult/awful to apply. So you knew the answer you were looking for in the first place eh? your own !

Happy New Year

Re: Rhodius varnish

There's nothing specified in the up to date version of CAP562 but there's an older issue which specifies BSX18, Shellac Varnish for internal wooden structures. The AC43 indicates TT-V-109, which is marine varnish. I priced Shellac which would be my preferred substance and it came out at £18 a litre....

Re: ADS TECHNICAL

Rob, I had a bit scout around and came up with BS A20, which is a WW2 spec. That lead me onto the following:- BS2059-1953 and SAE 6B. They are available at a cost but I hope the following link is helpful. https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:x-NqbZUbmFgJ:mech.sharif.edu/~durali/design/Shafting...

I didn't see any NDT process there but it was interesting all the same.

I'm all for enterprise but I do not think it is appropriate for AJD Engineering to monopolise on some free advertising within the forum. Moderator !!

Re: C90 overheating

Mike, have you removed (cut out  ) the original gauze filter? This is necessary for the modified filter to attain its full flow, which cools the oil.

Re: Facet fuel pump

Ok Ian but I still wouldn't be happy with that situation as an Inspector. IIRC, the Glastar has some Header tanks down the rear door posts. What about a by-pass with a NRV between the pump inlet and the pipe into the header tank? That way you get to the fuel in the event of pump failure and you can ...

Re: Facet fuel pump

Sorry Ian but that doesn't seem like a good idea to me in the event of transfer pump failure. I'd want some method of getting to that fuel in the event of the mains running down too far. Maybe I'm missing something though. ?

Re: Facet fuel pump

It's the Square type of pump I assumed Jim to have as I've seen this problem and solved it as described.

Are you saying that you can't transfer fuel from Aux to Main without that pump functioning on your Glastar?

Easy fix is to by-pass the inlet to the Facet pump and fit a non-return valve. You'll find that the EDP could (will) cavitate, if you don't fit the by-pass.

I've seen it on an Ikarus as well. Top of the strut and to the front of the charging valve. Treated it and sprayed with LPS3. It's got no worse in the last 5 years or so. This aircraft operates from a hayfield and I took it that acid/chemical attack was to blame. Edit. Just posted a couple of pics o...

You don't need any special tools to remove the venturi. It's held in place with Three little clips and although they're fiddly, removal and replacement can be done with a little care.

I don't think the parts are available on their own but there's an overhaul kit with everything you'll need. I can't remember where I got my last one but it would have been either Airworld or Multiflight.
