Re: Powered Towbar

Well, it's out of my hands anyway - the group has ordered one at a huge price, so I shan't need to pull it back up the slope with my car again - only needed to do that once in several years. I'll report back on how well it does.

Re: Powered Towbar

Thanks Mike. Sod's Law says that's the one I took to Colorado in June and gave to the Colorado Springs Aviation Museum Director (National Museum of World War II Aviation), to show what the LAA gets up to! I'll have to see if I can pick another copy up at Turweston. Should be a great museum when it o...

Re: Powered Towbar

Thanks for your warning Paul. I think the new model looks less like a power drill in a handle, but it uses a friction band drive onto the aircraft nose-wheel, which I can imagine would be prone to slip on the upslope into the hangar - their demonstration video shows a minimal slope. Yes, thanks Ian,...

Powered Towbar

Our group is looking at buying an Aero-Pac APT-3000 to pull our TriPacer up a slope into the hangar when they're single-handed and there's no help about. It's a pretty hefty price, and is substantially a rechargeable lithium-ion powered motor with a drive band that presses on the tyre surface. Does ...

Re: Shafted again?

The CAA safety evening figures did support the view that Gyros are much more likely to be involved in a flying accident than any other powered aircraft, based on the number of hours flown - not sure if it was 10 times the risk though, but it was many times it. I've never seen other figures to explai...

Re: Here We Go !

It's recognised me when I re-visited, without requiring a re-log in, so I guess the acceptance of cookies has now worked.

Re: Here We Go !

I've been having to sign in each time to the old one, except for a brief time when it allowed me to stay recognised. I was hoping the new code would enable that for me.

Re: A cautionary tale for farmstrip and airfield owners

What? Yellow jackets to be work when refuelling is in progress? Isn't that a no-no, or is that just for AVGAS?

Rating Instructors and the PCS

Just a heads up in case it gets overlooked:- I've just read IN-2012/071 from the CAA (or EASA) and wonder how this will affect the PCS. I don't know if the LAA is a Registered Facility, a Type Rating Training Organisation, a Flight Training Organisation (I assume not) or an Approved Training Organis...

They're easily done with the Alt key + 3 or 4 digits, depending on the letter and accent.

See http://french.about.com/od/writing/ss/typeaccents_7.htm for the list.

It showed normal (well, fairly normal) people flying inexpensively and enjoying the challenge. Even the youngster from Ireland felt proud of completing the Rally, and will be stronger for having done it. It also showed there are opportunities for all, and a lot of pleasure in 'getting it right'. The...

I've written an email objecting to the siting of the panels, on the groubds that it would inevitably close down the site to gliding and light aircraft, with the loss of the amenity value and employment. The argument given for siting them on the runway is so as not to disturb the habitat of the grass...
