Leather helmet: Adapting old RAF"C"type to a modern radio?

Is there a practical and economic way of adapting an old RAF "C" type leather helmet so that it will work with a hand held radio? This could be by way of an intermediary "black box" or by stripping out the old loom and replacing it with suitable new wiring and headset pieces. I would also prefer to ...

Re: PFA/LAA Magazines

Hello Ian, That sounds like a solution - if you don't mind the extra travelling from Sidmouth. Let me know when you are likely to be able to call and I'll make sure I'm here to hand them over. (If not, I could parcel them up securely and leave them somewhere for you to pick up, if we have to go out ...

Re: PFA/LAA Magazines

Hello Ian,

That would be fine - as long as I could have them back - and I'll arrange to forward them on if you let me know where to send them. Turweston, perhaps?

Re: PFA/LAA Magazines

I've lost track of which mags are needed but for the record I have the following that may be available for copying and return to me ( p&p at my expense if necessary): Sept/Oct 1966 Jul/Aug 1967 May/June 1968 Jul/Aug 1968 Sep/Oct 1968 Jan/Feb 1969 Sep/Oct 1969 Nov/Dec 1969 Jul/Aug 1971 Sep/Oct 1971 N...

Re: Aluminium Wood Screws

Frank, No problem and thanks for the information. I have to install 0.016" aluminium sheet leading edges on my project. They are normally located and tacked in place with a couple of 1/2" aircraft nails into small nail blocks glued to the spars, followed by locking wire over small clips to anchor th...

Re: Aluminium Wood Screws

Very useful link.

I notice there is a $35 minimum and have requested a quote for what would be a small order.I need about 200 #4 flat head screws; the cost may exceed the min. order value anyway. Is there any mileage in combining orders to economise?

Re: Thread sealant for NPT aluminium pipe thread fittings.

That sounds good, John and I guessed I maybe only need a teaspoonful. I'll follow your advice.

All suggestions are much appreciated & thanks again.

Re: Thread sealant for NPT aluminium pipe thread fittings.

Many thanks John and I'll try both the Ez Turn(LAS) and maybe Wellseal, as alternatives to the Loctite/Permaseal offerings. The Ez Turn is useful stuff, by the look of it, for lots of things, including my carb and Essex primer although it may not be best as a sealant in brake systems, perhaps. Wells...

Re: Thread sealant for NPT aluminium pipe thread fittings.

Many thanks Pat and I'll bear your comments in mind.

The item in Sport Aviation does also discuss the merits or otherwise of PTFE tape and warns against careless overuse/misuse of both tape and sealants.

Re: Thread sealant for NPT aluminium pipe thread fittings.

Following on from the previous post & for the benefit of anyone who may find it useful, the item by the esteemed Brian Carpenter covering all things to do with pipe thread fittings was in the July 2015 Sport Aviation ( Page 2 of "The Experimenter" section. ). There is no video... No specific sealant...

Re: Thread sealant for NPT aluminium pipe thread fittings.

Thanks Harry for the warning - I was aware of that but am sure it bears repeating. I'm sure I saw an excellent video on the EAA Hints for Homebuilders a few weeks ago, in which Brian Carpenter clearly explained the reasoning behind using a thread sealer with AN pipe fittings, but I'm darned if I can...

Re: Thread sealant for NPT aluminium pipe thread fittings.

Thanks for the link Mike - that will be useful for certain threads on my carb; something similar was mentioned somewhere on the web.

Regards.
