Landing vouchers

Even if we could negotiate say half price (or quarter price) landings, it would encourage more fly-outs (especially if we could forecast them ahead so struts and friends can make a plan to meet somewhere). That would also generate more traffic for the airfield so a business case can be made that in-...

Getting out more often

Last time I checked the cost of a permit renewal covered the cost of the work done by engineering in that area. So multiple owners do not pay more for their permit than single owners. Period. As a group they do pay more to the Association but they all benefit equally and individually from the excell...

Transponder Installation - The Position On 7 Feb 08

A very topical question and I have some of the answers for builders and those contemplating installing a mode A or A/C transponder. Background: An interim note on the Recent Mode S consultation will be on the website shortly (ok don't call me shortly) with a fuller assessment at the end of Feb to co...

Membership

Could I offer a different slant on the owner/member debate leaving aside the moral and fairness issues. The LAA has a duty to supervise the continued airworthiness of aircraft under its jurisdiction. It does this through a range of regulations and procedures that sit under The Rules of the LAA. Memb...

John, perhaps I missed something here but there are no hoops to jump through to fit a transponder in a LAA permit aeroplane. Having found your inspector, you get on and do the work and complete form LAA/MOD 7, which is a pretty simple business compared to the those from the Ministry of Forms, and to...

I have been working with the CAA on exemptions for the last few weeks. The Mode S consultation has just been issued and I will draft an article for the Mag plus stuff for the website. Turning to the previous posts, I think you will find that the schedule relating to transponders applies to the Londo...

Evening All, just back from a day of LAA business and thought I would call in to see how things were going. Jamie, I subscribe to a couple of other forums, one for the aeroplane I own and one for the aeroplane I am building. They are both brilliant. I have got to know really interesting people and i...

Interesting (well maybe not) that the whingers and moaners don't think that EC members view the BB. I do. I suspect others do as well. But now that we can post using alias names maybe you don't know who they are. Or maybe they read but don't post so don't need to register. Or maybe they have read an...

Mode S

The regulations on transponders do indeed apply to all aircraft not just CofA. If you apply to put a transponder on your radio licence after 31 Mar 08, it will only be approved if it is on the CAA list of TSO mode S equipments. If your aeroplane is in build by 31 Mar 2008 an exemption may be availab...
